This vote was taken at the Board's regular meeting on 6 December 1999. Please contact me at 764-3742 if you have any questions about this case. Sincerely, Lance Simms Building Official Home of Texas A&M University Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals Staff Report Item: Variance case#98-003. A request to extend a variance that was granted on 11 March 1998, concerning the use of temporary office buildings for First Federal Savings Bank. Policy Issue Statement: Health and public Safety—Citizens benefit from available health and human services in a reasonably safe and secure environment. Item Background: On 11 March 1998 the Board granted a variance to First Federal Savings Bank(2202 Longmire location). This variance concerned the use of two 14' x 24' portable buildings that were being used as temporary offices until the bank could add more room to the existing building. The portable buildings did not contain the bathroom required by the plumbing code or the accessibility features required by the building code. The board granted a variance to both of these provisions with an 18-month time limitation. At that time, bank representatives stated that 18 months would be enough time to complete the addition to the main building and discontinue the use of the portable buildings. The variance expired on 11 September 1999 and the bank has not started the addition on the main building. Therefore, the applicant is requesting an extension of the variance until such time that the main building addition is complete. Staff recommendation: Approval, with the condition that a time limitation be placed on the temporary use of the portable office buildings. • CONSTRUCTION L IADJUSTMENTS AO AS/BUDI STANDARDS COMMISSION FORMAT FOR POSITIVE MOTION FOR VARIANCE I move to authorize a variance from the terms of this ordinance for the following • reasons: It would not be contrary to the public interest; a literal enforcement of the ordinance would result in unnecessary hardship and manifest injustice to this applicant. Further, granting this variance would observe and accomplish substantial justice.
