Description if Applicable 3.5 acres mores or less Action Requested Approval to relocate firewalls to coordinate with engineered building design. . Current Zoning of Subject Land Cl • Applicable Ordinance Section Aria, ,j- No 10 -6 q f S4.1. P14q COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING FOR A VARIANCE REQUEST 0 The following specific variation from the ordinance is requested. Relocating firewalls to a location spanning the width of buildings rather than along the length of buildings. This variance is necessary due to the following special conditions: The buildings are prefabricated and engineered using a "diaphragm," non-rigid frame technology that derives its strength from partitions oriented across the width of each building. No wall is built running the length of the building, therefore there is no wall oriented along the length of the building along which to place a firewall. If a divider is installed, it is a movable, non-structural privacy panel that is relocated frequently(monthly or weekly)to accommodate differing space needs. Stated differently, the permanent walls of the buildings are the side-to-side partitions with no walls installed along the length of the building. In addition, some of the buildings will have access from one side only through interior hallways. In these buildings, it is not feasible to divide the building along the length because such a wall would impede access the far side of the building. The following alternatives to the requested variance are possible: `411" For exterior access buildings, firewalls will be installed across the width at the midpoint of each building so that it is divided into approximately equal halves. For buildings which have interior access, we propose to divide the building with a combination of firewalls so that the building is divided into approximate equal halves with as few breaks along the walls as possible. See example diagram attached. This variance will not be contrary to the public interest by virtue of the following facts: The variance will divide the buildings into approximately equal halves in accordance with City code requirements while not destroying the engineered strength and designed flexibility of the buildings. The facts stated by me in this application are true and correct to the best of my knowledge.
