Attn: Building Official
Building Code Board of Adjustments
Dear Sirs,
Pebble Creek Country Club requests a variance on Ordinance Section 602.6.8 Fire Lane
Markings. Enclosed with this letter is the attached variance request.
As stated in our earlier letter the Pebble Creek clubhouse is designed in a unique way in which
there is no parking around the entrance to the club. The entrance to the clubhouse is intended to
accommodate those who wish to let their family and/or friends off under the porte cochere, as
well as valet parking for special events. In other words, it is not intended for parked vehicles that
will be left unattended.
We believe that the required fire lane marking would not be aesthetically pleasing for the main
entrance of the club. We understand and believe in the importance of this ordinance, therefore
we would like to request to apply Option #2b, which states "In some cases where curb markings
are not possible or where signs would in the Fire Officials opinion work more effectively, he can
require them in lieu of curb markings."
As a condition to get our certificate of occupancy we have temporarily been using signs to
designate the fire lane as agreed upon by Mr. Hurt. Over the last few weeks we have been able to
observe the reaction to the signs and are very pleased with the results. As an additional measure
we have had signs made that read "Absolutely no unattended vehicles" these have been placed
under our porte cochere.
We believe that this request will improve the appearance of the main entrance to the clubhouse,
as well as communicate to others that this area is a fire lane, and that no one is to park in the area.
We appreciate your consideration in this matter, and will be glad to answer any questions that
will be helpful in your decision making process.
Sincerely,
Pebble Creek Country Club

FORMAT FOR POSITIVE MOTION FOR VARIANCE
I move to authorize a variance from the terms of this ordinance for the following
reasons: It would not be contrary to the public interest; a literal enforcement of the
ordinance would result in unnecessary hardship and manifest injustice to this applicant.
Further, granting this variance would observe and accomplish substantial justice.
