Box 9960 College Station, TX 77842-9960 Attn: Building Official Building Code Board of Adjustments Dear Sirs, Pebble Creek Country Club requests a variance on Ordinance Section 602.6.8 Fire Lane Markings. Enclosed with this letter is the attached variance request. The Pebble Creek clubhouse is designed in a unique way in which there is no parking around the entrance to the club. The entrance to the clubhouse is intended to accommodate those who wish to let their family and/or friends off under the covered area, as well as valet parking for special events. In other words, it is not intended for parked vehicles that will be left unattended. Mr. A.P. Boyd met with Mr. Eric Hurt, Battalion Chief Fire Marshall on March 21, 1995. Mr. Boyd explained to Mr. Hurt that the entrance to the clubhouse was designed to be elegant and appealing, since it is the first impression of the club, and we do not feel that the red curb will comply with the look we are trying to establish. Mr. Hurt understood our objections and told Mr. Boyd that Post Oak Mall was filing a similar variance and suggested that our only option was to request a variance as well. We believe that the required fire lane marking would not be aesthetically pleasing for the main entrance of the club. We understand and believe in the importance of this ordinance, therefore we would like to request to apply Option #2, which is to paint a continuous 8" (eight inch) line along the drive surface of the fire lane which will contain the wording "NO PARKING - FIRE LANE - TOW AWAY ZONE". We plan to keep the gutter area clean, and free from debris so that the markings will be clearly readable at all times. We believe that this request will improve the appearance of the main entrance to the clubhouse, as well as communicate to others that this area is a fire lane, and that no one is to park in the area. We appreciate your consideration in this matter, and will be glad to answer any question that will be helpful in your decision making process. Sincerely, Pebble Creek Country Club Davis M.
