STAFF REPORT
Subject: Appeal for variance by the GTE Mobile Net in
regards to the city ordinance and fire code requirements for
fire hydrant spacing .

Section 603. 1 .3
All premises where buildings or portions of buildings are
located more than 150 ft. from a fire hydrant system shall
be provided with approved on-site fire hydrants and water
mains capable of supplying the fire flow required by the
Fire Official . The location and number of on-site hydrants
shall be as designated by the Fire Official , with the
minimum arrangement being so as to have a hydrant available
for distribution of hose to any portion of any building on
the premises at distances not exceeding 500 ft. but in no
case shall hose lengths be greater than 500 ft. Public
hydrants are recognized as meeting all or part of the above
requirements. Plans and specifications for the installation ,
modification , or alterations of any on-site fire service
main or fire hydrant shall be submitted to the Fire
ifficial , along with hydraulic calculations, for review and
approval prior to installation .
EXCEPTION: One and two family dwellings with or without
attached or detached accessory structures used exclusively
by the owner and not subject to use by the public.
The City of College Station does not have water mains
located in this area. In order to provide the water mains
needed for fire hydrant service the capital outlay of funds
would be greater _han the value of the property .
Water is supplied by Wellborn Water Service. This company
has advised me they do not want to provide fire hydrants or
give the impression that they are a fire district. Wellborn
Water Service feels this would place them in a position of
possible liability .

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
The College Station Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals will hold a public hearing to
consider a variance request by GTE Mobilnet of South Texas LTD for the following property:
1.756 Acres in A-202 S.W. Robertson Survey, zoned A-0, Arigculutral Open
The hearing will be held in the Council Room of the College Station City Hall, 1101 Texas
Avenue at 4:00 p.m. meeting of the Board on Wednesday, June 29, 1994.
