12 Building Relationships Building a Better Community with You Detention Ponds On January 22, 2009, the City of College Station City Council approved a new ordinance to amend the Unified
Development Ordinances pertaining to detention pond aesthetics. The major points of the ordinance include: 1. Removal of the detention pond screening regulations; 2. Providing alternatives
to existing material and design options; 3. Increasing flexibility to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards; and, 4. Adding regulations regarding exposed concrete involved
in storm water management. Council approved Ordinance # 3161 unanimously with expressions that this is only the first step in the process of turning storm water detention into a site
asset. Portions of the ordinance may be found in Article 7, Sections 2, 5, 8, and 9. For more information about this ordinance, please contact Lauren Hovde, Staff Planner, or the Planner

Regulations Update and Kick-off Meeting The City continues to progress toward a comprehensive and contemporary development ordi-nance. A large part of this effort involves the update
of the Subdivision Regulations, origi-nally adopted in 1970, and their incorporation into the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). The Planning & Development Services Department, in
partnership with the Legal De-partment and the Public Works Department, have set out to accomplish this in a three-phased effort. On December 16th, the City Council acted on Phase One
of this update amending the UDO to incorporate the existing Subdivision Regulations and to make amendments to a number of the processing requirements. The revised UDO is in effect and
can be viewed on our Depart-http://www.cstx.gov/home/index.asp?page=418. Phase Two, involves revision to the actual development standards and further
refinement of the processing requirements. Phase Two is now underway and is anticipated to be complete by late summer. Phase Three, will involve further changes necessitated by the update
to the Comprehensive Plan, and will occur following adoption of the revised Comprehensive Plan. The kick-off meeting for Phase Two of the Subdivision Regulations update has been scheduled
for Monday, February 23rd at 1:30 PM in the Council Chambers in City Hall. Staff from vari-ous City departments will be present and the kick-off meeting is open to the public and all
in-terested parties are invited to attend. If you have questions or need additional
information about the revisions or the Subdivision Regulation update process, please feel free to contact Jason Schubert, Staff Planner, at jschu-bert@cstx.gov.

Page 12 Volume 10 Issue 1 Building Relationships It is probably safe to bet that residents in most communities have never personally met their mayor or certainly not had a conversation
with him. Mayor Ben White has tried very hard to change that paradigm by getting to know as many citizens of College Station as possible. He is literally
-on-one dialogue with citizens to build relationships, talk about what is going well, and attempt to solve problems before they become too big to handle.
which involves the Mayor visiting local
other representatives of the Planning & Development Services Department, to engage those contractors
and sub-contractors who are directly responsible for getting the job done. The first of what is expected to be a series of monthly visits began on Friday, December 19, 2008 when the
Mayor visited the sites of The Lofts at Wolf Pen Creek, located at the inter-section of Holleman and Dartmouth, followed by the Law-yers Title Company building located at 1450 Copperfield
Parkway. Mayor White met with the project superintendents and took a brief tour of each site.
