Joint Meeting of City Council and Planning & Zoning Commission
August 21, 1978
7:00 P.M.
MEMBERS PRESENT:
Mayor Bravenec; Councilmen Halter, Ringer, Boughton, Dozier;
Director of Public Works Ford; City Planner Mayo; Commissioners
Etter, Jones, Watson, Burke, Sweeney
MEMBERS ABSENT:
Councilmen Hazen, Adams

Agenda Item No. 1-- Consideration of a final plat- R.O.W. dedication of F.M. 60
(East Bypass to F.M. 158).
Councilman Dozier moved and Councilman Boughton seconded to have the P&Z consider
this item first.
The motion was approved unanimously.
Vice-Chairman Burke opened the P&Z meeting.
Commissioner Jones moved to remove this item from the table.
Commissioner Sweeney seconded the motion which was unanimously approved.
City Planner Mayo explained that the plat must be approved within a few days
if the City is to meet the deadline for the funding application.
Commissioner Etter inquired if the Council was in favor of the extension of
F.M. 60 and development to the east. Councilman Halter explained that the
Council had already decided to add the extension to the Comprehensive Plan
several months before.
Councilman Dozier explained that this funding was available only for specific
types of projects and could not affect any other transportation funding for the
City. He further explained that this project was in competition for the funding
with proposals from other areas of the State. If this area did not get these
funds, some other area would and that no one could be certain when this funding
might be available again.
Commissioner Sweeney moved to approve the plat.
Commissioner Jones seconded the motion which passed unanimously.
The plat now returned to the Council for consideration.
Councilman Halter moved to approve the plat
Councilman Dozier seconded the motion.
The motion to approve the plat was approved unanimously.
Agenda Item No. 2 -- Discussion of possible oil drilling in the City of College
Station.
Mr. George Murphy and Mr. Charles Decker, Getty Oil Company, spoke to the Council
concerning possible leasing of City property.

Dr. Doug VonGonten, Petroleum Engineering Department, TAMU, advised the Council
on matters pertaining to drilling.
The Council decided to contact other cities where drilling is presently being
allowed.
Agenda Item No. 3 -- Adjourn.
Mayor Bravenec declared the meeting adjourned.
