Cb PD Minutes of Regular Meeting June 23, 1961 Members present: Mayor Langford; Councilmen Orr, Landiss, Sorrels, Anderson, Boyett, Rosprim; City Manager Boswell, City Secretary Manning City Attorney Dillon. Visitors present: A. R. Denny, Robert Toland, Mrs. Frank Hughes, Mrs. A. B. Medlin Minutes of previous meeting were approved. The mayor announced that the first order of business would be a public hearing on the proposed budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1961, Mr, A. R. Denny, representing the Youth Counseling Service requested an increase of $1,200 in the city's contribution to the service, On motion by Councilman Orr. seconded by Councilman Anderson, the request was granted, On motion by Councilman Sorrels, seconded by Councilman Landiss, Ordinance No. 315, an ordinance adopting the budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1961, was passed and approved, On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Rosprim, Ordinance No. 316, a tax -levying ordinance for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1961, was passed and approved. On motion by Councilman Orr* seconded by Councilman Rosprim, Ordinance No. 317, an ordinance determining to assess a part of the cost of improving certain streets and providing for notice of hearing was passed and approved and ordered published, On motion by Councilman Landiss, seconded by Councilman Orr, Ordinance No. 318, an ordinance determining to assess a part of the cost of improving certain streets and providing for notice of hearing was passed and approved and ordered published. On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Landiss, the bid of Jack M. Barker Construction Co,,, Lufkin, Texas, in the amount of $76,688,20 for certain street improvements within the city of College Station was accepted and the mayor authorized the sign for the city contractural documents relating thereto. The mayor read a letter from Mr, John Combs, Director of the Wesley Foundation, accepting the conditions for closing an alley which runs through their property. The council having previously agreed to close the alley in question upon assurance that the requirements enumerated in the minutes of January 23, 1961, would be acceptable to the Wesley Foundation, upon motion by Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Orr, the city attorney was directed to prepare an ordinance closing the alley, 749 l'r i 1 I LIJ W 0. 0 0 On motion by Councilman Sorrels, seconded by Councilman Orr, the mayor was authorized to renew a note with the College Station State Bank in the amount of $40,000. The council received for study a request from certain residents of Ward I a petition that provision by made for the establishment of a kindergarten in that area. The city manager reported that an estimate in the amount of $7,500 had been prepared for the construction of a bridge in Glade Street. It was his recommendation that the bridge could be constructed by using city forces for approximately $5,000. On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Landiss, the city agreed to construct the bridge in question when Glade Street has been improved to that point, The council adjourned subject to call, ATTEST: K.
