HomeMy WebLinkAbout1983-1437 - Ordinance - 07/28/1983ORDINANCE NO. 1437 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 10, SECTION 3 OF THE COLLEGE STATION CODE OF ORDINANCES RELATING TO SPEED ZONES AND SPECIFICALLY DESIGNATING ADDITIONAL AREA IN THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION IN WHICH RATES OF SPEED OF GREATER OR LESS THAN THIRTY (3D) MILES PER HOUR ARE AUTHORIZED RESCINDING ALL PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH: AND DECLARING THAT ATTENDANT FACTS NECESSITATE IMMEDIATE ACTION. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION: That any and all ordinances or parts of ordinances relating to speed zones on University Drive (FM 60} in the City of College Station are hereby amended, and that the following Sub-Section 2.i shall be added to Chapter 10, Section 3.E of the College Station Code of Ordinances. (i) The existing ordinance or parts of the ordinance or parts of the ordinance relating to the speed zones of a section of University Drive (FM 60) are hereby amended to provide for the use of temporary speed zones during certain construction periods of a pedestrian underpass for Texas A&M University under their Medical Sciences Library Project No. 1-2380. The temporary speed zones established hereinafter become effective when proper speed limit signs are posted designating the speed limit. At all times when the temporary speed zones are not posted, the speed zones for this highway revert to those established under Ordinance dated September 22, 1977. Upon completion of the section of the pedestrian underpass across the entire width of University Drive {FM 60) and when the traffic patterns are restored to a condition equal to that prior to the construction of this underpass, this ordinance is void and the speed zones revert to those established under Ordinance dated September 22, 1977. Texas A&M University is solely responsible for erecting and maintaining the signs for this temporary speed zone. The temporary speed zones and limits are specifically designated as follows: Univers(ty Drive (£M 60) traffic moving in both directions for a distance of 0.200 mile from a point 850 feet west of the intersection of Horticulture Road with University Drive to a point 206 feet east of this intersection shall have a speed limit of forty (40) miles per hour. For the next 0.230 mile to a point approximately 85 feet west of the intersection of Agronomy Road with University Drive (FM 60) the speed limit shall be 25 miles per hour. II. WHEREAS, the preservation of the general welfare of the public necessitates Ordinance No. 1437 Page 2 immediate action, this Ordinance shall be effective from and after the date of its passage as provided by the Charter of the City of College Station.
