AGENDA ITEM NUMBER 1 - Closed session to discuss personnel
[Art.6252-17(2)(g)]. - Personnel [6252-17 (2)(g): discussion of
appointment of an individual ~o.t~e.,9-1-1- District Board of
Directors:
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Marvin Tate of the City
of Bryan. He commented that the meeting marked the second time
that the cities of Bryan, College Station, and Wixon Valley had
convened in joint session. Mayor Tate welcomed everyone and
asked Wixon Valley Mayor Roy Barnes to introduce the
representatives with him. Mayor Barnes introduced Mayor Pro tem
Ruby Andrews and Alderman Ike Wilganowski. Mayor Larry J Ringer
introduced College Station Mayor Pro tem Fred Brown and
Councilmen Lynn McIlhaney, Dick Haddox, Dick Birdwell, Jim
Gardner, and Vernon Schneider. Mayor Tate introduced Bryan
Councilmen Edward Aycox, Ben Hardeman, Larry Catlin, Helen
Chavarria, and Bob Reese.
The three mayors concurred that discussion would begin in open
session. Mayor Ringer made a motion to appoint Ernie Clark to
serve as a director representing the three cities on the 9-1-1
District Board. Mayor Pro tem Fred Brown seconded the motion.
Mayor Tate called for discussion on the motion. Mayor Ringer
stated that Bryan City Manager Clark had completed a one-year
term on the 9-1-1 District Board and knew the operation. He
- ,,.70,
pointed out the importance of each of the major cities having
representation on the Board, and noted that they would protect
Wixon Valley's interest also. He commented that Fred Brown,
College Station, currently serves on the Board.
No other nominations were made. The vote on Mayor Ringer's
motion to appoint Bryan City Manager Clark to the 9-1-1 Board was
approved unanimously, 16-0.
Mayor Ringer said he realized that the representatives to the
9-1-1 Board initially drew lots for terms, but he believed that
the two terms for directors appointed by the cities should expire
at the same time. He explained that doing so would allow more
flexibility in making appointments and that changing the By-Laws
to end the cities' two terms concurrently, would be appropriate.
Mayor Ringer noted that the director's term filled by Fred Brown
would end in one more year.
A motion was made by Mayor Ringer that the 9-1-1 District Board
be asked to consider an amendment to the By-Laws so that the two
representatives from the cities would have concurrent terms of
office. Bryan Councilman Larry Catlin seconded the motion. The
motion was approved unanimously, 16-0.
Mayor Barnes thanked the cities of Bryan and College Station for
their invitation to the meeting and spoke of the efforts and
work to build Wixon Valley into a good community. Mayor Ringer
responded that the other cities were glad to support and help the
community.
