HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/27/1960 - Regular Minutes - City CouncilMINUTES OF MEETING June 27, 1960 Members present: Mayor Langford; Councilmen Anderson, Boyett, Landiss, Smith; city Attorney Dillon, city Manager Boswell, City Secretary McGinnis. Visitors present: Mrs. R. A. Knapp, Melvin Schroeder, represent- atives of the Bryan Eagle. The mayor announced the first order of business to be a public hearing on the budget for the fiscal year July 1, 1960 - June 30, 1961. On motion of Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Landiss, Ordinance No. 295, an.:ordinance adopting a budget for the j next fiscal year, was passed and approved. On motion by Councilman Landiss, seconded by Councilman Anderson, Ordinance No. 296, a tax -levying ordinance, was passed and approved. On motion by Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Landiss, Ordinance No. 297, an ordinance concerning the keeping of livestock within the city, was passed and approved and ordered published. On motion of Councilman Landiss, seconded by Councilman Smith, Ordinance No. 298, an ordinance concerning the defacing of public or private property, was passed and approved and ordered published. The mayor read a letter from the president of A..& M College requesting that the city annex the College View apartment area. Action was deferred until an accurate description of the property is available. Councilman Orr was authorized to make such a detailed survey. The city attorney and the city manager were authorized to proceed with the preparation of the necessary legal documents and engineering work for improvements along the following streets: Minutes of Meeting - Page 2 June 27, 1960 Church from Tauber to Nagle Foster from Gilchrist to Kyle Moss from Highway 6 to Foster Francis from Munson to east city limits Thomas from Dexter to alley between Southeast College Park and Dulaney and Woodson Village additions Cherry from Tauber to Nagle Tauber from Church to Cherry Second from Church to Cherry Stasney from FM 60 to Church The city manager was requested to prepare an estimate of cost for installation of services along the following streets: Stasney from Church to Cherry Cross from Tauber to Nagle The council deemed this action to be necessary prior to improve- ment of these streets. On motion by Councilman Landiss, seconded by Councilman N Anderson, the application of Doyle E. Albright to sell alcololic beverages at 108 Main Street in College Station, Texas, was disapproved as the location in question is less than 300 feet from the First Baptist Church of College Station. Rejection of the application was based on authority granted incorporated cities by Article 1, Section 25a, of the Texas Liquor Control Act. Mr. Melvin Schroeder requested that the council give consideration to the question of drainage from Woodson Village addition through The Knoll and beyond. On motion of Councilman Landiss, seconded by Councilman Smith, the city manager was directed to give this question immediate priority and, if practicable, to have a report ready for the next regular meeting. The city attorney was requested to review the law con- cerning storing of explosives within the city limits, with par- ticular attention being given to the recent explosion in the industrial area.
