HomeMy WebLinkAbout04/25/1960 - Regular Minutes - City CouncilMINUTES OF MEETING APRIL 25, 1960 Members Present: Mayor Langford; Councilmen Landiss, Sorrels, Boyett, Anderson, Smith; City Manager Boswell; City Secretary McGinnis; City Attorney Dillon. Visitors Present: Ed. Rivers, Bob Toland, Mrs. Marion Pugh, Donald,Blashill, James B. Hervey, A. R. Denney, and Harley Lee. The mayor reported that the Board of Literary Review had organized with Mr. S. A. Kerley as chairman and Mrs. Regina Lundergan as secretary, and upon motion by Councilman Landiss, seconded by Councilman Smith, these appointments were approved. The Mayor further reported that the board had held an organizational meeting at which time the city attorney made.a brief summary of the duties and responsibilities of the board. On motion by Councilman Landiss, seconded by Councilman Sorrels, the city mana= ger Was granted permission to attend the annual meeting of the International Munici- pal Finance Officers Association in New York on June 5 - 9 and to be reimbursed for expenses incurred in attending the meeting. On motion by Councilman Sorrels, seconded by Councilman Boyett, the bid of General Electric Supply Company in the amount of $2,207.41 for electrical supplies for warehouse stock was accepted. On motion by Councilman Boyett, seconded by Councilman Anderson, the bid of Bryan Tractor & Implement Company in the amount of $1,581.75 for a tractor was accepted. On motion by Councilman Landiss, seconded by Councilman Anderson, the city at- torney was asked to prepare for consideration by the council an ordinance concerning the injuring or defacing of public or private buildings, etc. zl On motion by Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilmen Landiss, Ordinance No. 294, an ordinance approving the rate increase requested by the Lone Star Gas Com- pany was passed and approved. ; i On motion by Councilman Sorrels, seconded by Councilman Anderson, the city manager was authorized to employ the services of Mr. N. D. Sorenson, J. B. Hervey, Charles LaMotte, Charles F. Richardson, A. L. Rosprim, Billie J. Flucker; City Cemetery Board: Mrs. C. B. Campbell, Chairman, N. M. McGinnis, Mrs. T. W. Leland, Mrs. M. C. Ld U7 Pugh, Mrs. E. E. McQuillen, Mrs. R. A. Knapp, Mrs. D. W. Williams; Q Human Relations Board: Bardin H. Nelson, Chairman,. James W. Amyx, W Daniel Russell, L. D. Trevino, Bennie A. Zinn, Robert L. Melcher; LL Joint Airport Zoning Board: C. K. Leighton, Ben B. Hamner. CL Mr. Robert A. Toland, director of the Brazos County Youth Counciling Service, Ogave a report and analysis of the service for 1959. The meeting adjourned subject to call.
