MARCH 28, 1960
Members Present:. Mayor Langford; Councilmen Orr, Anderson, Landiss, Sorrels, Boyett;
City Manager Boswell; City Secretary McGinnis; City Attorney Dillon.
Visitors Present: Benard D. Trail, reporter for the Battalion, Mike Robison, Ken
Fisher, Byron Pruitt, Jack Fugate, Bobby Elkins, Jack L. Fugate, Mike Murray,
Lawrence Stelly.
Councilman Smiths request that he be excused from this meeting was granted.
On motion by Councilman Landiss, seconded by Councilman Orr, the following
policy was adopted relative to the installation of street lights in previously developed
sections:
POLICY
1. Property owners will pay for lighting facilities, including
brackets and fixtures, ready to connect to the city's street
lighting system.
2. Any light installed shall be purchased through the city with
ownership vested in the city.
3. The city will furnish the poles, bear the cost of installation,
and provide necessary power.
4. Installation of lights will be completed as the city has funds
available. Requests will be handled on a "first come - first
served" basis.
On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Anderson, the following action
was taken relative to certain requests by the A. & M. Consolidated School Board:
1. The city will participate to the extent of forty (4076) per cent
in the cost of construction of a street crossing the school prop-
erty from Francis Street to Gilchrist Street.
2. Width of such street back to back of curbs to be twenty-seven (27)
feet; width of right-of-way to be fifty (50) feet, with center of
street to coincide with the center of right-of-way.
3. The city agrees to designate such street as a one' -way street be-
tween the hours of 7:30 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. on school days.
4. Before the construction of such street is to be begun, the school
board will dedicate the street right-of-way to the city of College
Station and place in escrow the necessary funds for its portion of
construction.
5. The city will furnish all engineering services, prepare the plans
and specifications, advertise for bids, let contract and supervise
construction.

Councilman Orr suggested that consideration be given to changing the type of curb
in street construction in order that consturction costs may possibly be reduced.
City Manager Boswell was directed to look into the possible use of such curbs.
Mr. Taylor Riedel having declined appointment as chairman of the Board of
Literary Review created by Ordinance No. 293, Councilman Landiss was requested to
contact Mr. S. A. Kerley relative to his accepting the chairmanship of the board.
The council adjourned subject to call.
