HomeMy WebLinkAbout1984-1500 - Ordinance - 01/26/1984ORDINANCE NO. 1500 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 1, GENERAL PROVISIONS, OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS, SECTION 22 REGULATING NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH PROGRAMS. OF THE CODE BY ADDING A WHEREAS, the City of College Station has determined that it is in the best interest of the safety of its citizens to encourage participation in organized Neighborhood Watch Programs. It has also been determined that the posting of Neighborhood Watch signs without neighborhood participation undermines the effective implementation of the Neighborhood Watch Program. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS, that the following regulations concerning the posting of Neighborhood Watch signs are hereby adopted: No Neighborhood Watch sign may be posted without certification by the City of College Station Police Department that the following criteria have been met: (1) Participation of at least 75% of the homes in the in the block or area where signs are to be posted, (2) Participation in Operation Identification, i.e., the marking of personal property with an engraving device to create an unremovable identification, and (3) The request for the City of College Station Police Department to prepare a security survey on each home participating. II. The posting of a Neighborhood Watch sign without compliance with the requirements of Subsection I of this Ordinance shall be an offense punishable by a fine of up to Twenty-Five Dollars ($25.00). III. And it is ordained that this Ordinance shall become effective from and after its passage in accordance with the City Charter of the City of College Station.
