HomeMy WebLinkAbout1987-1720 - Ordinance - 08/13/1987ORDINANCE NO. 1720 AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE IMPOSITION AND COLLECTION OF A SPECIAL EXPENSE FEE ON DEFENDANTS WHO TAKE DEFENSIVE DRIVING COURSES. WHEREAS, Senate Bill 243 has been approved amending Article 45.06 of the Code of Criminal Procedure allowing municipal courts to collect a special expense fee from defendants whose tickets are dismissed because of a Defensive Driving Course; WHEREAS, the special expense fee has been authorized by the legislature for the purpose of allowing municipalities to recoup administrative costs of citations; and WHEREAS, the City of College Station has found that Defensive Driving Courses have resulted in administrative expenses that have been to date unrecouped by the City; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS, that effective September 1, 1987, the Municipal Court of the City of College Station will assess a special expense fee of Five Dollars ($5.00) upon each defendant whose ticket is dismissed because of a Defensive Driving Course.
