FEBRUARY 22, 1960
Members Present: Mayor Langford; Councilmen Landiss, Orr, Boyett, Anderson, Smith,
Sorrels; City Manager Boswell; City Attorney Dillon.
The mayor and city manager reported on a conference with members of the A. & M.
Consolidated School Board relative to street improvements and construction connected
with the proposed new building for the school. The council authorized the mayor,
city manager, and city attorney to continue as a committee to work with the school
board on this matter.
Mr. Boswell reported that about forty dogs have been picked up, two reclaimed
and over 200 dog tags sold.
Messrs. L. A. Duewall and S. A. Kerley were appointed to membership on the Board
of Literary Review created in Ordinance No. 293.
On motion by Councilman Landiss, seconded by Councilman Anderson, Ordinance No.
290, an ordinance ordering a general municipal election for April 5, 1960, was approved
and ordered posted.
On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Smith, Ordinance No. 291,
an ordinance appointing a Board of Equalization, was passed and approved.
On motion by Councilman Sorrels, seconded by Councilman Orr, Ordinance No. 292,
an ordinance establishing monthly telephone rates to be charged by the Southwestern
States Telephone Company, was passed and approved. Councilman Smith voted "No".
The city manager reported that an estimate of cost for drainage in the Knoll
area was being prepared.
Councilman Smith and Landiss were appointed as a committee to draft a policy
relative to the installation of street lights where requests for same are made by the
individuals. Councilman Smith was designated as chairman and City Manager Boswell
was instructed to work with the committee in studying the question of cost.
On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Smith, Ordinance No. 293,
an ordinance creating a Board of Literary Review, etc. and repealing Ordinance No. 288,
was passed and approved.
The council adjourned subject to call.
