REGULAR MEETING OF CITY COUNCIL
January 11, 1945
Members present: Mayor E. Langford; Councilmen Crawford, Harrington,
Orr, Wilcox, E. E. Brown; and City Manager Lloyd D. Smith.
Mr. A. D. Henson of the Western Union Telegraph Company presented a
request throughthe City Manager for permission to close Western Union
Office at 8 p.m. The Council was of the opinion that it did not have
jurisdiction in the matter but instructed the City Manager to notify
Mr. Henson that he has its permission to close at the desired hour.
Mr. Smith submitted the text of two bills which will be presented in
the current section of the legislature. The council deferred any
recommendation pending further study of the bills.
Mr. Smith was instructed to go to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to inspect
certain road machinery offered for sale by the government and to use
his judgment in determining what equipment to buy.
The Council changed the fine for livestock running at large from $2.00
to $5.00 for each offense.
