Plan Update 11 Slab Reinforcement Support Historical Reference 12 One of the major problems in slab-on-grade construction is the placement of reinforcement, Points of Interest: welded wire mesh or other reinforcing steel prior to and during the placement of concrete. Often the reinforcement is walked on and pushed to the bottom, rendering the reinforce- Page 1 ment completely useless. Section 506.2.4 of the 2006 International Residential Code re- Inspector’s quires that reinforcement for slab-on-grade construction be placed at a location between the Corner center and the upper one-third of the slab during the entire concrete placement operation. This section also requires that reinforcement be supported or remain in place; hence, it clearly prohibits a field practice whereby the workers lift the reinforcement that has been Page 8 placed at the bottoms the concrete is being placed. The only time the center to upper one- Click2Gov third reinforcement location could be deviated from is when the slab is designed by a regis- tered design professional and the design calls for a different reinforcement location. The following are just a few of the features you can access: the project’s name, location, contact information for the owner, engineer, architect, etc., as well as staff’s review comments on all the plans submitted for the project. http://pzonline.cstx.gov To access new projects go to and search for the project by name. The Project HOLD office is home to the city’s historic online library database (http:// HOLD.cstx.gov). The office is also the center for the Historic Preservation Committee and its variety of programs: Explor- ing History Lunch Lecture Series, Historic Marker program, and Oral History program. The Project HOLD office is a resource center for those who are searching for historic information on buildings, homes, properties, businesses or streets. Although the Brazos County Courthouse is the final word on plats and titles, the Project HOLD staff is available to aid in some aspects of historical research. ݱ²­¬®«½¬·±² ±º Ø©§ò ê Þ§óп­­ ¿¬ Ø©§ò êð ¿²¼ ˲·ª»®­·¬§ Ü®·ª» Recently, we were able to locate old photographs of Holick’s Boot Shop at North Gate. The architect making the request was looking for background information to support his redesign and restoration of the storefront. Numerous times in the past year we have been asked to identify street name changes from long ago. One in- stance in particular involved an FBI case where the agent was seeking to document that a street and address of a business had changed in the last ten years. We were also able to direct the agent to other handy databases for his case. In the early 60s, several homes in College Station installed bomb shelters. We know the locations of two of them and would be interested in finding the others. The Project HOLD website has copies of several of the original land grant documents dating back to 1832 and earlier. The majority of property in College Station can be traced back to one of several of these leagues: Jo- seph E. Scott, Richard Carter, Crawford, Burnett, Zeno Phillips, A.M. Mc Mahon, John Austin, and others. Some of the more interesting photos found on Project HOLD are the early aerial views of the Texas A&M campus, A&M Consolidated Schools and some of the neighborhoods.
