HomeMy WebLinkAbout07/09/1970 - Special Minutes - City CouncilMINUTES SPECIAL MEETING CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS July 9, 1970 Members Present: Mayor D. A. Anderson; Councilmen Bill J. Cooley, Joseph J. McGraw, Dr. Cecil B. Ryan, Dan R. Davis, and Dr. C. H. Ransdell; City Manager Ran Boswell; and City Secretary Lynda Swoveland Members Absent: Councilman James H. Dozier Mayor Anderson called the special council meeting to order at 5:20 p. m. in the Conference Room at the City Hall in College Station, Texas. Mayor Anderson asked for the concurrence of council members present in granting an excused absence to Councilman Dozier from this meeting and asked that it be so recorded in the Minutes. The Councilmen concurred in this request from the Mayor. Mayor Anderson asked each member of the Council present to sign an Agreement to call the Special Council Meeting of this date, which they did. This agreement is made a part of these Minutes as ATTACHMENT A. Mayor Anderson further explained that the purpose of this Special Meeting was to adopt a Resolution pertaining to a Law Suit. The Resolution is as follows: THE STATE OF TEXAS X COUNTY OF BRAZOS X On this 9th day of July, 1970, the City Council of the City of College Station, Texas, convened in special session with the following members present, to -wit: D. A. Anderson, Mayor Bill J. Cooley, Councilman Joseph J. McGraw, Councilman Dr. Cecil B. Ryan, Councilman Dan R. Davis, Councilman Dr. C. H. Ransdell, Mayor Pro tem and the following absent: Councilman James H. Dozier, constituting a quorum, and the following proceeding was had: Councilman McGraw introduced a Resolution and moved for its adoption. Motion was seconded by Councilman Davis, and the motion carrying with it the adoption of the Resolution and order prevailed by the following vote: AYES: 5 NOES: 1 X35 W Minutes of Special Council Meeting, July 9, 1970 Page 2 The Resolution is as follows: "WHEREAS, a law suit has been filed which would vitally affect the lives and interests of a vast majority of the citizens of College Station, Texas, AND, WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that the interest of the City of College Station should be protected and represented, NOW, THEREFORE, . BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL that they deem it in the best interest of the City of College Station, Texas, and its inhabitants thereof, to employ the firm of Baker, Botts, Shepherd, and Coates of Houston, Texas, to assist and represent the city in this matter. PASSED AND APPROVED this 9th day of July, 1970. " On motion by Councilman McGraw, seconded by Councilman Davis, the meeting was adjourned, subject to call. PR ATTEST: CatSecretary las
