A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing; our helper he amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing. for still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe; his craft and power are great, and, armed with cruel hate, on earth is not his equal. 2. That word above all earthly pow'rs, no thanks to them, abideth; the Spirit and the gifts are ours through him who with us sideth. Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also; the body they may kill: God's truth abideth still, his kingdom is forever. P Brothers and sisters in Christ: We have come together to seek God's blessing as we set apart this ground for the building of a church. Old Testament Leading. Exodus 3:1-6 Now Moses was keeping the flock of his father -in -law, Jethro, the priest of Midi an; and he led his flock to the west side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2 And the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush; and he looked, and lo, the bush was burning, yet it was not consumed. 3 And Moses said, "I will turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt." 'When the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, "Moses, Moses!" And he said, "Here am I." 5 Then he said, "Do not come near; put off your shoes from your feet, for the place on which you ire standing is holy ground." 6 And he said, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God. New Testament Reading: Ephesians 2:14-22 For he is our peace, who has made us both one, and has broken down the dividing wall of hostility, 15 by abolishing in his flesh the law of commandments and ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, 16 and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby bringing the hostility to an end. 17 And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near; 18 for through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. 19So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord; 22 in whom you also are built into it for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit. Gospel: Luke 6.47 -49 Every one who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: 48 he is like a than building a house, who dug deep, and laid the foundation upon rock; and when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house, and could not shake it, because it had been well built. 49 But he who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation; against which the stream broke, and immediately it fell and the ruin of that house was great." PRAYER P The Lord be with you. O And also with you. ® Let us pray. ® Blessed are you, 0 Lord our God, king of the universe. You fill the entire world with your presence; your name is to be hallowed through all the earth. Bless all those who have worked or contributed to provide this site which today we set apart for the building of a church. May this be a place where your glory dwells and where your way is revealed in Word and Sacrament. May your gracious blessing descend like the dew from heaven upon this plate and upon all who shall gather here to worship you. You have given us joy in a work begun in your name; may we soon celebrate your presence in the house of your Church, and, in the time to come, praise you forever in our eternal home; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. 0 Amen. Psalm 100 (said in unison) 1 Be joyful in the LORD, I all you lands;* serve the LORD with gladness and come before his presence I with a song. 2 Know this: The LORD him - I self is God;* he himself has made us, and we are his; we are his people and the sheep I of his pasture. 3 Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his I courts with praise;* give thanks to him and call up- I on his name. 4 For the LORD is good; his mercy is I everlasting;* and his faithfulness endures from I age to age.
