HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010 Life Member Letter 25 June 2010 BRAZOS VALLEY Dear Life M embers, VETERANS MEMORIAL The Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial (BWM) Foundation Board of Directors wishes to make you aware of several upcoming events in hopes you can fit them into your schedule. The Memorial is moving into a new phase of construction and expansion that will make it a significant attraction for recreation and for education. Last year we completed the Lynn Stuart Pathway around the memorial. This year we are building on that beautifully successful project by adding the Military History Trail. The Military History Trail consists of 18 sites commemorating the 17 wars recognized by the U.S. Department of Defense plus the War for Texas Independence. Each site has a granite marker along the Lynn Stuart Pathway identifying a specific war, a bench and an interpretive panel explaining the details and historical significance of the war. Ultimately, each site will also include a life -size bronze statue representing an American serviceman dressed and outfitted accurately for the timeframe of the war. All markers, benches and panels are currently in place and we have broken ground for statues commemorating the American Revolution and the War for Texas Independence and the Korean War. On Thursday, 01 July, we will dedicate the American Revolution War Statue. On the 175 anniversary of the "come and take it" incident at Goliad, Friday, 01 October, we will dedicate the Texas Independence Statue. Finally, as part of the annual Veterans Day Celebration at the park, 11 November, we will dedicate the Korean War Statues. Because you have supported the BVVM so generously from the earliest days of our development, we hope you will be able to join us at each of these special events. Looking forward to seeing you at Veterans Park, Sincerely, Captain M. W. Newman, U.S. Navy (Retired) President Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial P.O.
