It is a home -rule city and operates under the Council- Manager form of government. The Mayor and six Council Members are elected at- large by place, in city -wide elections; terms of office run for two years. We are pleased to provide this 2003 Parks & Recreation calendar as means to inform the public about the many exciting services that are offered throughout the year. As an added convenience, the calendar also includes activities and information for programs and events offered by other local agencies that may be of interest to you and your family. Please use the calendar throughout the year to assist in scheduling your leisure activities and contact us if additional information is required. Our staff is proud to work for this fine community and we are very grateful for the strong public support that the citizens of College Station provide. A linear open space established along either a natural corridor, such as a riverfront, strearn valley, or ridgeline, or overland along a Railroad right -of -way converted to recreational use, a canal, a scenic road, or other route. 2. Any natural or landscaped course for pedestrian or bicycle passage. 3. An open -space connector linking parks, nature reserves, cultural features, or historic sites with each other and with populated areas 4. Locally, certain strip or linear parks designated as a parkway or greenbelt. Greenways for America, Charles E. Little 1� L a Urban Greenways The primary functions are to provide for flood control, recreation, transportation, economic and aesthetic purposes. Examples of urban greenways are the main channels of Wolf Pen Creek and Bee Creek from Texas Avenue to SH 6 East ByPass. Provide connections between commercial areas along the greenway and surrounding area. • Highly visible access • Width is determined by the floodway line plus a riparian buffer area Wide trails having hard, smooth surfaces Intensive use suburban yreenways rrimary runction will be to provide flood control, recreation and transportation. Moderate to high levels of use Connect users and their destinations to other neighborhoods, businesses, parks and schools Visible access points • Width is the entire floodplain • Medium to hard surface trails for recreation and transportation Rural Greenways Primary function is to control flooding, to protect wildlife and to increase aesthetic values. RECREATION DIVISION: This division's responsibilities include providing first -class athletic programs for all ages, hosting local, state and national sporting events, managing the Wolf Pen Creek Amphitheater and providing concerts and special events for the community, running the Kids Klub after - school program for children K -6th (in conjunction with the College Station Independent School District), and providing educational, fun, activities and special events for citizens 55 and older through the Senior Services Program. His performance always exceeds expectations. He truly is dependable, professional, innovative, and a team player. For the first time, Scott was the recipient of the City of College Station's 'Employee of the Year' award in October 2002. He was presented with the Eagle Award, which consists of a trophy and a $500 check. It is unlawful to litter in City parks. It is unlawful to cut or destroy vegetation. All vehicles must park in designated areas. It is unlawful to swim in park ponds.
