Agenda Item #4: Possible action and discussion on absence requests. Hillary and Meredith submitted their excuses for their absences prior to the meeting. Agenda Item #5: Possible action and discussion to approve meeting minutes of regular meeting of February 7, 2011. Minutes were approved. (JM/lbh) Agenda Item #6: Report from HPC Chairperson. Susan reported that the Exploring History Lunch Lecture program on Camp Hearne was the best attended ever with approximately 144 guests. See attached Heritage Programs Progress Report and Google Analytical Report. Anne reported on the Texas Historical Commission Preservation Conference that she attended in Austin last week. She attended a rally i􀁑􀀃􀁖􀁘􀁓􀁓􀁒􀁕􀁗􀀃􀁒􀁉􀀃􀀳􀁕􀁈􀁖􀁈􀁕􀁙􀁄􀁗􀁌􀁒􀁑􀀃􀀷􀁈􀁛􀁄􀁖􀀑􀀃􀀵􀁄􀁜􀀃􀀥􀁈􀁑􀁖􀁒􀁑􀀃􀁄􀁑􀁇􀀃􀁋􀁌􀁖􀀃􀀷􀁈􀁛􀁄􀁖􀀃􀁅􀁄􀁑􀁇􀀃􀂳􀀤􀀤􀁖􀁏􀁈􀁈􀁓􀀃􀁄􀁗􀀃􀁗􀁋􀁈􀀃􀀺􀁋􀁈􀁈􀁏􀂴� �􀁇􀁒􀁑􀁄􀁗􀁈􀁇􀀃 their services and provided the music for the rally. Anne will be distributing some of the conference information and materials to the HPC in the coming weeks. Anne also reported that a high compliment was paid to Heritage Programs by her mentors at Austin History Center. When they realized that we scan EVERY document that comes in they said: You guys are so far ahead of us! I am so impressed! We don't have the man-power to even begin to scan a fraction of our archives. Anne also reported that the conference was very helpful in allowing her to network with THC personnel who are very knowledgeable in implementing some of her projects. Anne also reported that the THC will not be hosting a conference next year due to the budget cuts at the state level. Agenda Item #8: Possible action and discussion on Preservation Excellence Awards. Anne will have the design and wording for the awards at the next meeting. Agenda Item #9: Report on 75th Anniversary plans. Agenda Item #9: Committee Reports: 􀂇 Hot Rocks Cook Off/Off/Native American Interpretive Path 􀂱 Ernie Wright, Lou Hodges, Morgan Hester (HP Intern); A meeting will be scheduled during the month of April. 􀂇 Historic Marker Program 􀂱 Meredith Waller, Alison Clary (HP Intern) The marker presentation was held at the council meeting on March 10. Alison is working on helping the Walton family apply for a state historic marker for the T.O. Walton Building. The Walton building is also eligible for the National Historic Registry. Anne will prepare materials to send to them. 􀂇 Oral History Transcription Project 􀂱 Lou Hodges Lou continues to work on this tedious project as time allows. 􀂇 Landmark Commission (Liaison) 􀂱 Susan Irza As HPC liaison to the Landmark Commission, Susan feels that the committee has hit a standstill in promoting an historic district overlay for Oakwood neighborhood. 􀂇 75th Anniversary Planning Committee 􀂱 Linda Harvell (chair), Patricia Cleere, Jerry Cooper, Susan Irza; Linda Harvell reported that the 75th Anniversary Planning Committee has reserved the American Pavillion at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex for October 18-18, 2013. The committee is working on a gala evening with dancing and an awards dinner at the pavilion on Friday night. Saturday will include a tailgate BBQ, a fun run, and other activities during the year. Anne continues to work with Jim Railey, Donning Publishing Company, to solicit sponsors for the publication fo the comprehensive city history. The next meeting will be Friday, April 8, 11:00 a.m. at the CS Conference Center. 􀂇 College Station Timeline & College Station History Book Advisor 􀂱 Jerry Cooper, Morgan Hester (PH Intern); Jerry continues to work on compiling a comprehensive listing of city elections, candidates, election tallies, terms served, resignations and deaths. The list will become an index in the 75th Anniversary history book. Morgan is assisting in compiling a city history timeline. 􀂇 College Station Oral History Interviews & Educational Initiatives 􀂱 Libby Vastano, Susan Irza; Anne and Glenn Davis interviewed Virginia Parsons, a long time Wellborn and College Station resident. She has a WWII footlocker full of photos, news clippings, scrapbooks and memorabilia to share with Project HOLD. Anne will be conducting an interview on Tuesday with Edwin Allen Poe, a noted retired rancher who now lives in Bryan. He will be attending the meeting on this project in College Station. Vicky is working on editing and adding to the list compiled by Anne. 􀂇 Heritage Programs Acquisitions 􀂱 Tina Hanna (HP Volunteer); Tina is continuing to work on processing and scanning the city and university documents of Mayor Andy Anderson. Morgan is preparing the documents and making notes for use by Glenn Davis for the 75th anniversary history book. Tina has completed over 700 volunteer hours.
