HomeMy WebLinkAboutNovember 4, 2024 minutes Historic Preservation Committee Board College Station, TX Page 2 November 04, 2024, Minutes Staff Present: Andrea Lauer, Business Services Manager; Kimberly McNally, Historical Records Archivist; Luis Perez, Recreation Supervisor; Ethan Vacula, Special Events Board Present: Carla Elliott, Louis Hodges, Comer Patterson, Sherry Frisk, Gerald Burgner, Lisa Mouton, Tom Turbiville Council Members Present: 1. Call meeting to order and consider absence requests. Meeting was called to order at 4:03 p.m., Tre Watson asked for an excused absence, upon a motion made by Sherry Frisk and seconded by Lisa Mouton, the motion to accept his request was unanimous. 2. Hear visitors. None 3. Agenda Items 3.1 Presentation, discussion, and the possible approval of minutes from the previous meeting. Upon a motion made by Tom Turbiville and seconded by Sherry Frisk the minutes were approved as written. 3.2 A. Cemetery Parks has a cemetery brochure, which is available at Central Park office. B. Historical Marker Program/Project HOLD Report No marker applications were submitted. Kimmie has digitized 168 floppy disks and is also working on the history book. C. Exploring History Lunch Series November luncheon will feature Benjamin Knox, and the Fitch family in December. D. College Station Pictorial Book Updates The book is in final design editing and will hopefully be completed by February. E. American Mile Tom Turbiville is working on possible additions to the blank bricks and welcomes suggestions. Staff is currently working on getting prices to have the bricks engraved, staff recommends engraving the bricks in phases, possibly starting with 100 bricks. Historic Preservation Committee Board College Station, TX Page 2 F. Lone Star Legacy Park designation Sherry has turned the application over to the Parks Director, Kelsey Heiden to submit to TRAPS. She was very happy with the twelve wonderful letters of recommendation from citizens. The oak in Brison Park has been registered in the Brazos County Historical tree registry. It is approximately 170 years old and 58ft tall. 3.3 Report by the Liaison of Parks and Recreation on matters pertaining to the Historic Preservation Board. None 3.4 Identification of upcoming local or area historical programs 9/11 Ceremony Wednesday @ 5:30 @ Veteran’s Park Pavilion. 4. Discussion and possible action of future agenda items. None. 5. Presentation of historical items Several items were passed around, including a WW1 journal and picture of St. Joseph hospital. 6. Adjourn. Upon a motion made by Lisa Mouton and a second by Tom Turbiville, the HPC voted unanimously to adjourn the meeting @ 5:17 p.m.
