General Information:
The property located at 1007 Walton Dr. (parts of Lot 3 & 4 block 8 of College Hills Estates) is a single
story frame house with a handmade brick exterior wall covering. The front of the property faces due
south. The structure is a pier and beam construction with interior concrete beams following all interior
walls with additional concrete piers spaced as needed. The original hipped roof was cedar shake shingle
but was then removed and replaced with a composite shingle roof. The windows at the time of
construction were state of the art aluminum single sash single pane operable windows. They are
currently being (slowly) replaced with wooden double hung insulated glass windows. The original floor
plan was a split floor plan with three bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, formal living, breakfast room, informal
living, dining room and kitchen. A screened in breezeway connected the attached garage and the
kitchen. The garage has located in the front a small living quarter with a sink, toilet and in the wall gas
heater. It is presumed to be a servant or maids quarters. The current floor plan has the breakfast room
and the informal living room as one (the wall separating them was removed in the past). The breezeway
has been glassed in to function as an addition room to the side of the kitchen. A carport/storage area
has been constructed to the back of the property. All efforts were made to make this structure match in
construction style and material. Recycled bricks (handmade in Mexico) were found to match those on
the house. For the most part the exterior of the house has been altered very little. Paint colors have
been changed but no additions to the floor plan have been made.
History:
The original tract of land that would become College Hills Estates was bought from Mrs. Minnie
Dansby by JC Culpepper on August 10, 1937. The specific home site was purchased by Dr. Grady Parker
on March 5 ,1946. A plumbing inspection tag found during the renovation on the master bathroom
was dated August 1951. Thus the house was completed late in 1951 or early in 1952.
The home was then sold (upon the death of Mrs. Bernice Greathouse Parker) to Francis Kelly
Bell Jr. and Laurie Elizabeth Bell for $102,600.00 on October 3, 1986. Mr.and Mrs. Bell then sold the
property to Paul F. and Susan S. Causey on June 17 1991 for approximately $140,000.00. In May of
2002 the property was sold to Robert Sanford Foster V and Mindy Dore' Foster. They are the owners at
the time of this application.
Historical significance:
Dr. Grady P. Parker was coach and administrator in the Texas school system for 15 years. During his
tenure he coached a state championship football team.
