ST ST ST A 40 2 520 ,25 .ELLYIE ‘r HAMS ST 11. nN !T .i 379 �■ TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM ANNUAL ELEMENT - T S M - - PLAN IMPLEMENTATION SINCE 1970 - - UNDER CONSTRUCTION A 1 TRANSPORTATION PLAN The State and local governments, working through the cooperative, comprehensive, and continuing planning process, have developed a recommended transportation plan for the Bryan - College Station Urban Area. The Recommended Transportation Plan is closely integrated with and part of the total conceptual community planning effort. The Recom- mended Transportation Plan contains several ele- ments, including These are improvements which will be needed in the transportation network during the long -range planning period, a time span generally estimated to be a 20 -year framework. The local governments are working to implement this long -range trans- portation plan in an orderly, systematic manner. Since the total plan is so closely related to com- munity planning as a whole, the overview of the proposed future transportation system is shown superimposed on the aerial photograph in the Neigh- borhood Analysis section of this Annual Report. TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS These are projects which, without major or exten- sive construction or capital expenditure, will en- courage more efficient use of the existing trans- portation resources. The TSM is designed to ad- dress the short -term needs of the community. The complete TSM is on file in the Study Office, and those projects which have been included on the Annual Element are shown in the chart below. This list is generally a three to five year program of work which is extracted from the long -range ele- ment and the TSM element. The TIP for the local area is shown in the chart below and is also on the map at the left, color -coded green. These are the top priority improvements, defined and agreed upon by the local governments. The projects which have been constructed since 1970 are shown in blue on the map. The improvements were funded from various sources, including Federal, State, city, county, and private developer funds. These improvements indicate the desire of the community to implement the planning process, insofar as the transportation system is concerned.
