TRANSPORTATION PLAN
The State and local governments, working through
the cooperative, comprehensive, and continuing
planning process, have developed a recommended
transportation plan for the Bryan - College Station
Urban Area. The Recommended Transportation Plan
is closely integrated with and part of the total
conceptual community planning effort. The Recom-
mended Transportation Plan contains several ele-
ments, including
These are improvements which will be needed in
the transportation network during the long -range
planning period, a time span generally estimated
to be a 20 -year framework. The local governments
are working to implement this long -range trans-
portation plan in an orderly, systematic manner.
Since the total plan is so closely related to com-
munity planning as a whole, the overview of the
proposed future transportation system is shown
superimposed on the aerial photograph in the Neigh-
borhood Analysis section of this Annual Report.
TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS
These are projects which, without major or exten-
sive construction or capital expenditure, will en-
courage more efficient use of the existing trans-
portation resources. The TSM is designed to ad-
dress the short -term needs of the community. The
complete TSM is on file in the Study Office, and
those projects which have been included on the
Annual Element are shown in the chart below.

ment and the TSM element. The TIP for the local
area is shown in the chart below and is also on
the map at the left, color -coded green.

Since 1970, when the Bryan - College Station Urban
Study was organized, major improvements have been
made in the transportation system. The projects
which have been constructed since 1970 are shown
in blue on the map. The improvements were funded
from various sources, including Federal, State,
city, county, and private developer funds. These
improvements indicate the desire of the community
to implement the planning process, insofar as the
transportation system is concerned.
