Attending: Bill Stasney, Bud Cargill, Walter Wilcox, Gary Shaw, Ed Burns, Tom Brymer, Lloyd Joyce, Harry Stiteler, Jake Canglose, Ben Wormieli, Rufus Woody (Austin), Carroll Bell, Warren Heffington Presiding: Jake Canglose Topic I: Hazardous Materials Emergency Plan: Mr. Canglose reviewed activities and plans to date. Emphasis was on Hazardous Materials Disaster Team that is now pretty well organized. Also need to identify and notify Fire Chiefs of locations and contents of Hazardous Materials in cities and county. On January 30, 1978 at 1 p.m., a meeting was held in the Municipal Bldg. (Bryan) at which Jake Canglose presideri over the discussion by 19 men on plans for handling Hazardous Materials problems. On March 2, 1978, in the Commissioners Court Room, Jake Canglose presided over a Hazardous Materials session and presented a plan for local use. Rufus Woody gave a slide presentation. Topic II: Rufus Woody, Nuclear Civil Protection Planner, of DPS, Dept. of Disaster Emergency Services, Austin, presented a program of Crises Relocation Planning which is under- way for Brazos and surrounding counties. A team of men are surveying Brazos and the host counties; Grimes, Burleson and Robertson. He made a slide presnetation showing comparisons of the U. S. and Russia situations on shelter and on relocation planning and Nuclear Attacks Units. The U. S. has 400 high risk areas with 33 of these in Texas. Russia can hit every city in the U.S with population over 50,000. The 100,000 population of -2- Bryan /College Station places us in Category II. Mr Woody presented much of the material that is contained in the DPS - DES publication, "Nuclear Civil Protection" and "Crisis Relocation Planning ". Mr. Woody will return with maps and detailed guidelines for Brazos County use. These can be used to print the supply of copies to be used by newspapers, etc. should they be needed On February 14, 1978, the 17th annual "Preparedness Confersence for State and Local Officials" was attended by Jake Canglose, Judge William R. Vance. On February 23, at 7 :30 p.m. Jake Canglose presided at a Tornado Spotters Training Program for the local REACT membership. The attendence was 29. The new NOAA Tormado plan was shown and Dr. Vance Moyer outlined reporting proceedures for spotters.
