Burns (1) A letter of commendation by Jake Canglose from' the Central Brazos Valley Mental Health Center for Assis- tance in conducting a Disaster Exercise, March 15, 1977 and for assisting in the review of their plans for cope - ing with disaster should it occur. Copies were sent to John Gray, Ben Wormeli and Judge Vance. (2) Bryan Hospital is conducting a disaster exercise March 31, 1977. Civil Defense is assisting in this activity. (3) James Presswood reported on plans from the National Safety Council to cooperate with NBC -TV, May 1, 1977 at 8:00 P.M. Eastern Time in televising "The National Disaster Survival Test ". Civil Defense will assist in informing local people of this program and encourage participation. (4) The local participation in the Emergency Broad- cast System (EBS). The local Radio and TV Stations will be adivsed by the National Weather Service (MWS) of Houston in teh event that adverse weather is threatening. (5) Jake Canglose reported that a National Weather Service Broadcast Station will begin operating in the Bryan - College Station area about July 1, 1977. It may broadcast from the KAMU -TV tower. The station will have three KW with power to broadcast about 40 miles. The primary beam will be directed South and West. This station is authorized to broadcast National Emergency information only. It may be possible to get approval to broadcast information in the event of a local emergency. Tone alert receivers are available to pickup emergency broadcasts. (6) The need for an effective Brazos County Emergency Operation Center (EOC) was indtroduced by Louis Odle and Charles Phelps. There was active discussion emphasising the need for a County EOC equiped and ready to function where the cities and county can converge in the event of a disaster. It was agreed that there is priority need for county Civil Defense and Emergency Operation Center space that is equiped and set up to function. Jake Canglose will discuss this need with Judge Vance to seek his approval and implementation.
