MINUTES OF DEFENSE COUNCIL MEETING
CIVIL DEFENSE OFFICE

Representives from Brazos Radio amateur club - -to present plans
for a radio relay station to improve amateur radio service
in county.
Requested by J.S. Berry 846 -3121 they have premission to locate
antenna on Community TV tower.
They want to use Bryan water tower for antenna on Dellwood St.
(refer to Mr. Sandlin).
We will try to get approval for antenna on water tower.
II : Rural Fire Program
Report. Fire chiefs and USDA representive Mr. Frierson will
get resource inventory.
Chief Sevison and Chief Langford will get district captains
appointed and we will call meeting --for orientation - -Mr.
Frierson will call meeting.
III : Report on large scale maps of CSP to be displayed in public
buildings, hotels and etc.
Cost $L27.00 for 500 each (minimum amount) approval to print.
Approval for printing on a 40 -40 -20 basis approved by
George L. Huebner, Judge Vance, Jake Canglose.
IV Step V of CSP. Outline given to officials as to planning
direction and needs. After study of guidelines, we will
meet and formulate action.
V Report of activities--- -
a. Radiological monitoring school started March 5, 1970,
16 enrolled and at least 10 more will attend.
b. College Station, Campus Security police plans are presently
being restudied for reorganization and bringing organization
up to date.

: The amateur repeater is a means of greatly extending the range
of "ham" ecui commonly used for local communications.
The nominal ange-of such equipment between mobile units i
is about 15 miles, but this is increased to 100 miles by
the repeater (50 miles in any direction from Bryan-College
Station). This greatly increases the utility ef theeeouipment ,
for all types of local communications.

The repeater is a non-profit project sponsored only
by the amateurs and concerned local agencies, such as Civil
Defense. Whereas the equipment cannot be used directly by
CD personnel, the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service provides
reliable communications for Civil Defense as has been demonstrated
in many instances.
