HomeMy WebLinkAbout02 BCCD Minutes and attachments 02.11.1960 BRAZOS COUNTY CIVIL DEFENSE COURTHOUSE BRYAN, TEXAS TA 2 -0777 TA 2-1569 TA 3-2865 REPORT OF MONTHLY DIRECTORS' MEETING Time: 6:45 A.M., February 11, 1960 Place: Clayton's Restaurant, Bryan Business Transacted: 1. Boy Scout Distribution of Civil Defense lit- erature T n Bryan and College Station was ex- plained by Director Cangelose. Scouts are to distribute 5000 packets of Civil Defense material, door to door, on March 6. 2. Warning evice problems were discussed by all present. -it was decided that no practice alert signals should be sounded until a sound survey group could be retained to measure the effectiveness of existing warning devices. 3. Rural Civil Defense education project plans were vent ned. The project was designed by OCEM and is being promoted through the County Agent's office. 4. Rescue Equipment and Manpower was presented in a report by Phipps, Director of the Rescue Service. Phipps explained that we have no locally owned rescue equipment, but equipment of the Texas Rescue Training School at College Station in an extreme emergency. It was also pointed out that this equipment should not be depended upon locally, because it is subject to call anywhere in the State of Texas. Phipps also reported that 19 local men are now taking rescue training; about 12 have had the training before. Training facil- ities of the Rescue Training school are avail- able for this purpose. Othzr details of this report were put on file. It was decided by the directors to have only one Rescue Service for the County, Brvan, and College Station, instead of three separate organizations. The county -wide Rescue Service may be mobilized by any of the throe political sub - divisions. 5. Public Civil Defense Class progress was re- ported on by the School Coordinators. Courses are being scheduled in many public schools. 6. A Change in Meeting Time for monthly meetings was Trough up iw h no conclusions reached. Time will stay the same until further action. Attendance: Normal Additional Activity: Fannin School in Bryan has 30 enrolled in its public CD course.
