O. Box 4087 Austin, Texas 78773 -0001 Dear Governor Richards: With the extreme amount of rainfall which fell in South Central Texas beginning October 16, 1994 Brazos County is currently facing tremendous economic losses. Numerous residences and businesses sustained water damage due to rising water. If the rainfall continues, the damage will increase. The road situation in Brazos County has been affected to an extent by the rains that we have several families water bound due to impassable roads and water crossings. It is estimated that county road and crossing damage will exceed $300, 000.00. Governor, as Brazos County Judge, I am officially requesting Brazos County be declared a disaster area for both state and federal programs that would be available to local entities. It is my belief the damage to the roads in Brazos County due to the rain constitutes a public safety hazard. Governor, Brazos County does not have local funding available to make the needed repairs and to provide these citizens with effective relief. Your assistance in this emergency matter, as it affects the safety and health needs of the citizens of Brazos County, would be appreciated. Sincerely, oey R. J. Holmgreen County Judge RJH /cp
