CALVERT — Twenty -nine
Civil Air Patrol (CAP)
"1 members from Calvert and
Brazos County took part in a
two -day bivouac training
`ti session last weekend.
Fifteen cadets and fourteen
senior members of the Calvert
High School Composite and
Brazos County (Bryan- College
Station) Composite Squadrons
of CAP worked on emergency
services training during the
weekend.
Cadets were required to
pitch their tents in total
darkness Friday night and eat
cold rations or food that did not
require cooking or heat of any
kind. This was part of the
disaster training technique
emphasized with all cadets and
CAP members. An official for
the group said those par-
ticipating showed marked
improvement in their training
efforts.
The next day Capt. William
Conrad and 1st Lt. Ken Har-
ding took nine cadets on
orientation flights. Two seniors
also flew on initial observer
training flights. Saturday
afternoon the group watched
the Experimental Aircraft
Association's Fly -In and Air
Show at the Montgomery
County Airport in Conroe.
At its regular squadron
meeting May 13 the Calvert
CAP honored outgoing
squadron commander Capt.
Harry Hicks with a plaque and
a surprise party. The cadets
thanked Hicks and his wife, 1st
Lt. Rose Hicks, for their work
with the Calvert CAP unit. The
Hicks' will be moving to
Houston in June.
