CIVIL PREPAREDNESS GUIDANCE TO BE ISSUED
IN TWO NEW INFORMATION SERIES
•
Civil preparedness guidance is to be issued in two new information series,
DCPA Director John E. Davis announced today. The new series are:
A Civil Preparedness Circular series.
A Civil Preparedness Guide (CPG) publications series, which will
replace the Federal Civil Defense Guide (FCDG).
CIRCULARS
This issuance is the first in the Civil Preparedness Circular series.
The circulars will be used for timely dissemination of program information to
State and local civil preparedness directors and others. Much of it will be
i of general interest, and will include "one- time" announcements. Some of it
will precede issuance of more definitive information in the Guide series.
The circulars will be numbered according to order of issuance, beginning
with "1" each calender year. Each circular will be limited to a single subject.
tor
PUBLICATIONS
Publications in the Guide series will provide more detailed information
than that in the circulars. The publications will be identified in these two
categories:
CPG 1 -- Guidance intended for all State and local civil preparedness
directors and others with emergency responsibilities.
CPG 2- -- Guidance intended for limited distribution to special
audiences. Initial distribution, however, will always
be made to the civil preparedness directors of the States.
A handbook entitled "Disaster Operations," CPG 1 -6, is the first publi-
cation to be issued in the new Civil Preparedness Guide series. The titles
and brief descriptions of other publications intended for issuance in the
Guide series include: :
CPG 1 -1 Introduction to Civil Preparedness
•
(Basic orientation into the program; intended primarily for newly
appointed local directors.)
CPG 1 -2 The Civil Preparedness Program
(Contains more extensive information on the civil preparedness
program than is contained in "Introduction to Civil Preparedness,"
above. Intended for all involved in or interested in civil
preparedness.)
CPG 1 -3 Federal Assistance Manual
(Details federal financial and other assistance available to State
and local governments to develop emergency readiness.)
CPG 1 -4 Summary for Public Officials
(Summarizes the Standards present in the publication which follows
and emphasizes the "why" of civil preparedness.)
CT'G 1 -5 Standards for Local Civil Prepar.,dness
(Specifies standards for the most important elements of local
emergency readiness. Includes a worksheet which can be used for
// readiness analysis and as a basis for improving readiness.)
( °4P
CPG 1 -7 Actions To Increase Local Government Readiness During Crisis Periods
(Contains checklists fofF use in crisis periods.)
Guidance in existing Federal Civil Defense Guide issuances will be valid
until rescinded or superseded.
