Judge Holmgreen declared by a proclamation the month of April as "Severe Weather And Tornado Preparedness Month ". This proclamation was jointly signed by County Judge Holmgreen, Mayor Bravenec of College Station and Mayor Smith of Bryan. 2. Dr. Vance Moyer, Brazos County Tornado Warning Officer, outlined the radar and radio wrning procedures and pointed out the need for a siren warning system for Bryan and College Station. 3. The film shown was "The Day of the Killer Tornado ". This occured April 3, 1974 in Georgia and Indiana with many tornadoes and many people killed. The film pointed out the need for early warning of the citizens and prepared- ness planning and organization to save lives. 4. Mr. Canglose outlined the NWS Weather Radio program. A broadcasting tower was completed in July 1974 which broad- casts to a radius of 40 miles. The broadcast is initiated in the Waco NWS station. The Canglose displayed a weather radio. At that time,by prearrangment , Mr. Doyle Casey initialed the warning siren in Waco which activated the radio Jake was holding. Charles Hunter was carrying a battery powered Bearcat Weather radio that also was triggered. Mr. Canglose pointed out that this NWS Radio System can reach 95% of the nations population and can be used for any national emergency warning. Tornado Warning Meeting, March 22, 1979 Minutes Cont'd 5. Those attending this meeting visited the Radar facility on the 12th floor and some went to the 15th floor observation laboratory. Forty four people attended this meeting. A packet of tornado information was distributed to each person which included the 1979 updated Tornado Warning Plan for Brazos County. A G E N D A S.C.
