Our annual Tornado Warning meeting will be held Wednesday, April
22, 1974 at 7:30 pa in room 210, 2nd floor in the Oceanography-
Meteorology bul 1 ding.
This building is where the universityis new radar station is located
and can be identified by the radar arrays mounted on the roof.
The purpose of this meeting is to bring together all our tornado
warning groups and spotters and other interested persons to go over our
tornado spotting and warning plan.
The Brazos County Civil Defense Tornado Warning Division, headed by
Dr. Vance Moyer has done a magnificent job over the past years in giving
our area one of the best tornado warning programs in the state.
In order to continue this vital work and improve our system, we need
to have you attend and bring others who will be working with this group
or would be interested in helping.
We will also discuss our plans for installing a direct radio warning
system for our area which will reduce our warning transmittal time to a
minimum. I will need your assistance and cooperation.
A Tornado Identification film designed to assist you in identifying
tornadoes will also be on the agenda.
As a key individual in our Tornado Spotting and Warning program, 1
sincerely request your attendance if at all possible. If you are unable
to attend please send someone to represent you and feel free to bring
key individuals in your organization that you think should attend.
The threat of tornadoes in this area is very real and although we
are unable to prevent one, we can through organized efforts perhaps give
enough warning to prevent lives being lost.
