Our home at 207 Suffo~ ~ about two blocks south ofthe campus on lot 23, block 5,
Oakwood addition. Actually on one and ½ lots.
House was built in the 1930's for ~ J~F; Fudge, State Che~ia at TAMC system.
The architect was Edgar W. Ole~ Neither ~ ~ppmiml d~iet ~r t~ City can
determine the date ofconstmctiom .We have the °riginalblueprints for ~ house. Bill
Lancaster saYs th_is ~ ~ buiR in mid ,30,s: The J, GOrdon Gay house, two doors
north, was bum in 1934 ~the Fudge hou~ in ,34or ~35. ~Dent ho~ next door
(211 Suffolk) was:built after this house and ~ 1936 according m Bi~fl. Many of
the t~u~ in south Oakwood sprang uP in the mid-thirties.
This is a Cape Cod style two story house with inthe upstaks bedrooms. Still has
original 4 bedrooms and two baths. One is quite small Hasa useable fireplace.
Was originally heated with gas stoves as R~gas omlets ~ most rooms. Now has
central A/C ~ heating.
Floors in most of house are the original wood floors. Addition to rear of house also has
wooden floors.
Windows downstairs are original wooden unusual with 24 ~s eack Has
bay window in "library" with one 24 pane and tW° I8 pane windows, Upst&s dormer
windows are 12 paneS~ Windo~ at n°rth and mm upstairs are 24 panes~ Upstairs
rooms have 4 to 5 feet vertical walls und then Slant~ ceilings. V~ tightly done, eh?
Upstairs bath ~ the o~ cast ~n bath tub weighing ~verai ht~td~ed POunds. Had
the mb refinished.
Built on p~er ~ ~. ~gmal sMmg was shiplap ood, Has since had asbestos siding
and, wi~in thePas~ 20 years we've relished with Siding wl~dch apPe~s s~ilar to the
original. Roof was wooden shingles when we moved here in August 1970 but has been
replaced with composition shingles.
Regard~ persom of~storical note, lVk. Ftdge, State Che~st, built the house and lived
here during ~s tenure at Texas A&M. We bought the house from Colo~l and Mrs.
Garrison in 1970.
