Buildings marked as public fallout shelters will be used only for radiation protection during and after every actual or impending enemy attack involving radiation hazards. B. Shelters will be opened under the direction and authority of your local government. The emergency broadcasting l.ys4ema...thr.otigh our local radio stations, will notify citizens when there is a need to seek shelter. (Radio Station KORA, in Bryan, is _,equipped with radiation shielding and an emergency power supply. WTAW also maintains an emergency power supply. This equipment will ensure operation in adverse conditions. C. Public shelters will be utilized on a first come, first served basis. People seeking shelter should go to t he shelter nearest them; if it is filled, they should go to the next, etc. D. Each public shelter will have the following officials assigned: 1. Shelter Manager 2, Assistant Shelter Manager 3. Radiological Monitor 4. Radio Officer 5. Police Officer h. First Aid Officer Their duties and authority has been specified by local ordinances. E. All buildings ma ked PS pub 1 is fallout shelters are stocked with food, water, medical kits, sanitation kits and radiological measuring instruments and each shelter will have two w communications with the local government control center. F. Shelter managers and /or their staff will be in complete charge of each shelter and persons entering shelters will abide by their instructions under penalty of law. G. Buildings marked as fallout shelters have been surveyed for radiation protection only and do not necessarily offer protection from tornadoes or bomb blast. Mineral Information In the event a national emergency is declared and citizens are asked to seek shelter, everyone is requested to b ring blankets, etc. for sleeping purposes as these shelters do not have sleeping equipment. There is only slightly more than 14,000 public shelter spaces available in Brazos County. This means that more than half of our citizens will not be able to find public shelter. The marking and stocking of public shelters does not erase the responsibility of each family to build their own private shelter. In an emergency, be sure you have a shelter - - build your own. Stmnle Rules for Survival in Nuclear War 1. Keep a Two -Week suppler of food and water 2. Keep a battery powered radio on hand and know your local Emergency Broadcasting Stations. (These stations will give you life saving instructions.) 3. Know where all the public shelters are in your area. 4. Build you- own shelter. Brazos County Courthouse will serve as the main emergency operating center for Brazos County, the Cities of Bryan and College Station. 2. Bryan City Hall - Emergency Operating Center for City of Bryan. 3. U. S. Post Office, College Station, will prov ide emergency oper- ating space for the City of College Station. 4. U. S. D. A. Building will be the State Operating Center for the U. S. Department of Agriculture. 5. Highway Department Building, North Highway 6, will be the operating center for the District Highway Operatioh.
