Box 46, Bryan, Tx. 77806 Nix Ater 3 NEWS LETTER Meeting: Monday, November 2, 1987, 7:00 PM Bryan Union Lodge No. 129, 107 A South Main Bryan, Tx. Dear Reacter, I need to remind you of the meeting coming up on Monday night. This will be an important meeting for all team members as it will be election night. This is your opportunity to insure that your team has what you consider to be the strongest, most effective leadership available. The positions to be filled are President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Communications Officer. If you were not at the Area V Council meeting on October 17th you missed a very good meeting. Chief Jenkins and Bill Dorris each made very good presentations to the membership. Election of the Area V Council Officers for 1988 was held and two positions were filled by Brazos County team members. The positions filled were as follows: President -Frank Graves (Bexar County REACT), Vice President -Earl Adams (Brazos County REACT), Recording Secretary -Keren Pratz (Bell County REACT) and Treasurer - Gerald Guillory (Brazos County REACT). • 1 * • i • * * t / f # * ► t t M t • # t t • # # t > • 4 * # t • * # s i f • ! k • * t t * * M ♦ i ♦ # i l 4 * t s * ! f t i • • i f t ♦ # ! t f t t Consideration for others can often mean taking a wing instead of a drumstick. Some of the major activities the team has been involved in since last meeting are: October 3, 1987 Brazos County REACT responded to Central Dispatch Tone Out to a major structure fire on W. 18th St. in Bryan. The structure was totally involved and subsequently burned to the ground. Our team provided ice, water, gator aid and cookies for the firefighters. October 13, 1987 Brazos County REACT responded to General Alarm Tone Out by Bryan Central Dispatch, at 1052 AM, to a major commercial fire on FM 2818, at the Highway Materials, Inc. Asphalt Plant. REACT provided ice, water, and the Fire Department brought Gator Aid and Sandwiches to be distributed. This was a very stubborn fire and required personnel to remain on the fire ground for approximately four hours. . 4 z • ,j 'z m t ir Affiliated with: REACT International, Inc. a \ An independent non - profit public service organization providing organized citizens two -way radio communications in local emergencies. 8, _ RECIPIENT OF THE PRESIDENTS VOLUNTEER ACTION AWARD FOR 1982. Brazos County REACT NEWS LETTER - November, 1987 Page 2 Cctober 17, 1987 Brazos County REACT hosted the Texas State REACT Area V Council meeting. Elections were held and an enjoyable time with old friends was had by all in attendance. The coveted Travel Trophy was captured by Bell County REACT and will remain in their possession until, possibly, the next meeting, which is scheduled for February 13, 1988, in San Antonio, hosted by Bexar County REACT. I have asked Gaylon Christiansen, Unit 50, to organize and head up a new activity for our team. After the suggestion was made by Gaylon that we organize a Pumpkin Patrol for Halloween night he graciously agreed to manage this activity, so if he should ask for your participation, please try and help out as much as you possibly can. It is this type of "take charge" involvement that our team needs. Please don't forget upcoming events that we will be involved in such as the Holiday Parade and Christmas in the Park. Each one of these is a very worthwhile event and offer our team a great opportunity for public exposure. To touch a child's face, a dog's smooth coat, a petaled flower, the rough surface of a rock is to set up new orders of brain motion. To touch is to communicate. I would like to take just a moment, as your President, to say "Thank You" for your support and guidance during this past year. You may think a President is something out of the ordinary, but he or she is not. A President is nothing more than the vehicle through which you, as team members, get the things done that you want done. Without active, concerned team members a President can do nothing. I feel we have accomplished a great deal this past year, of which I am very proud. I also know that there are others in our team who would be very capable of performing this task and I would like for you to seriously consider these folks and allow them the opportunity to bring new thinking, ideas, and new blood to the team. I for one, want to see Brazos County REACT grow and make the con- tribution to our communities that i#' is capable of and for this reason I will support the team in whatever capacity I am able. REACTively, Ww, Robert G. Shearer President Brazos County REACT HOPE TO SEE YOU MONDAY NIGHT:
