Box 46, Bryan, Tx. 77806 AV 3 0 1987 \_, mar NEWS LETTER Meeting: Monday, July 6, 1987, 7:00 PM Community Room, Manor East Mall, Bryan, Tx. Dear Reactor, I am proud to be able to report to you, this month, that our team now has eight members certified in American Red Cross Standard First Aid. We will be holding certification classes in CPR and First Aid in the near future for any team members who were unable to participate in the certi- fication process before. I strongly recommend that you take advantage of these courses, especially if you make emergency calls with REACT. This training could be very beneficial to you even at home or on your job and you may be glad, one day, that you knew what to do. Some people are born on third base and go through life thinking they hit a triple. We discussed a motion, in our last meeting, to see that one or more of the McGruff, Crime Dog, puppets be placed in the public schools, in memory of Kandy Kirtland. I would ask that you continue to consider methods where- by REACT can see that this is done. This, I feel, may be one of the most worthwhile projects that we could undertake. Be giving it some thought and maybe we can discuss it further. In case you did not notice, the first part of June, it was very rainy, (Heavy Duty Rain). I want to thank those of you who have been kind enough to "hit the road" every time I call and say "Jake needs some spotters ": "Can you help "? Folks: You're great: Thank you. No bird soars too high if he soars with his own wings. . • We finally have the new REACT catalogue and order forms, so any of you who need or want new items ordered, be at the meeting and we can take care of whatever you may need. For your information: We have been adding to our First Aid supplies in the van. Earl reports that we now have sufficient arm and leg splints, 4X4 compress bandages and "cling" to get the job done. I am in the process of obtaining backboards. We have needed these items for some time and little by little it seems we are getting there. y °z 0 Affiliated with: REACT International, Inc. !r•.3y :• a An independent non - profit public service organization providing organized citizens two -way radio communications in local emergencies. RECIPIENT OF THE PRESIDENT'S VOLUNTEER ACTION AWARD FOR 1982. Brazos County REACT Page 2 NEWS LETTER - June, 1987 It has been brought to may attention that I may not have made myself clear at our lat meeting about the proposed new location for our meeting place. The new meeting room I intended to propose is in the College Station Community Center on Jersey St. Some of the membership thought I was suggesting the Lincoln Center on Holleman. Please consider the Jersey meeting room and we will discuss it again at the next meeting. I am sorry for the confusion. Things are moving too fast when we're told we can microwave minute rice. I would like to invite you to submit any items of interest to your newsletter. Sometimes it seems as though this is a one -sided project. Believe me; it is not intended to be. If you have any announcements, opinions or information to share with your teammates, please feel free to submit these either to the P.O. Box or call me at home and I can assure you they will be printed. This is your newsletter, so consider it as such. THOUGHTS TO SHARE DEPARTMENT How to get things done: Don't put it off a day, start it. Don't imagine it is too difficult, start it. Don't look for someone else to do it, start it. Don't think it over, start it. And don't start halfheartedly; put everything you can muster into your start. For those of you who were not able to attend the hamburger supper on June 6, hosted by the College Station Firefighters Association, I must say you missed some great groceries plus the most morale boosting program I have experienced with REACT. For once your President was at a loss for words, and as you know, that doesn't happen every day. We were honored by the Firefighters Association with a plaque for "Outstandina Service" and a check for $500.00. The firefighters said "Thank you REACT" and I want to say "Thank you" to each and every one of you, the members of Brazos County REACT, for the outstanding jobs you have done and encourage you to continue to make this team a team you can be proud of. Folks, you have, • in two short years, since reactivation, brought our team from just a dream to a reality. This is a team, of which, anyone could be proud to be a member. The plaque will be shown with pride at the meeting; the check was promptly taken care of by your Treasurer. Good judgement comes from experience. Experience often comes from poor judgement. Brazos County REACT Page 3 NEWS LETTER - June, 1987 MORE THOUGHTS TO SHARE That's not my job: This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody's job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Every- body wouldn't do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have. Bring someone with you on Monday night, July 6, and just ask that they come and see what we are trying to do. You never know, they may want to become a part of what we are doing. SEE YOU THERE: REACTively, 1 Ro.ert G. Shearer President Brazos County REACT
