Box 46, Bryan, Tx. 77806 i OCT NEWS LETTER Meeting: Tuesday, October 7, 1986, 7:00 PM Lone Star Gas Co., 201 E. 27th St., Bryan, Texas Dear REACTer, I would like to apologize to you for not having a newsletter published the past month or so. There are a number of reasons I could give, none of which are really good, so I will leave it at that and say "I am sorry ". On September 8 I made a presentation to the Brazos County Civil Defense group, at their monthly meeting, concerning REACT's Emergency Assistance Program in Brazos County. This was a very enjoyable endeavor and it seemed to be very well received by those in attendance. .. r Y„ ;maxim When I fly, I think about only three things - faith, hope and gravity. It appears, the past month or so, that the number of calls being taken on Channel 09 are on the increase and this is great. I honestly dont't believe there is an increase in the number of emergency situa- tions as much as more public awareness that help is available 2L hours a day on the radio. Let's all be aware that with the Aggies back we will be confronted with an increase in calls related to their activities, especially on the week -ends. Brazos County REACT NEWS LETTER October, 1986 We are scheduled to have John Godfrey from the Brazos County Sheriff's Department be our guest speaker on Tuesday night, so please make it a point to be in attendance. It is very discouraging for a speaker to take time from his schedule and prepare a presentation only to find that there wasn't any interest on the part of the group that invited him to speak. Now there's an updated version of the three R's readin', ritin' and replacin' batteries in the calculator. Our team continues to grow, even if only a few member at a time, with the Team Roster now listing thirty three members. Let's all continue to focus our attentions on this area and see if we can each bring in at least one new member each before the year is over. As some of you may already know, November is International REACT month. I am planning to actively seek to have the Mayors of both our communities proclaim November as International REACT month in Bryan - College Station. If I am able to succeed in this we should see some very valuable publicity and exposure that is tremendously important to our growth for the coming year. • Praise is warming and desirable. But it is an earned thing. It has to be deserved, like a hug from a child. It seems that we are still receiving some "Hoax" type calls every now and again, which can be very disconcerting for the person relaying the call to the authorities. Please, don't let this type of call dis- courage you from handling each and every call you take as professionally, seriously and quickly as you possibly can. Bear in mind that you do not have the luxury of being guaranteed that every call you take is going to be one that you can be proud of. I can assure you that if you handle it properly, you can be proud. The authorities are not new to this problem and will never down you for relaying the information you have taken. I want to thank and welcome those new members of Brazos County REACT who have paid dues and become members of our team in order to work these games. I want each and every one of you to know and under- stand that your assistance is appreciated and I, personally, want to encourage you to continue your efforts and become more a part of the team you are helping now. Whether you own your radio or not; We need you: Please consider being a member of Brazos County REACT this coming year and doing what you can to make our community a better place to live and work. Try and be in attendance at our meeting on Tuesday night and I guarantee it will be worth your time. . ....... . .. What we are is God's gift to us. What we become is our gift to God. At our November meeting we will be electing officers for 1987, so start thinking about who you would like to direct your team for the coming year. Please give it serious thought as those members have a tremenaous impact on the direction your team will take in the future. The positions to be filled by election are as follows: President, Vice- President, Secretary, Treasurer and Communications Officer. Remember the meeting Tuesday night at 7:00 PM. Be in attendance as this is your team` and you need to be there to express your feelings and to insure that the team is progressing in the manner that you see fit. See you Tuesday night.
