The OCD Regional office is the Federal government office to which the cancellation notice should he sent. As indicated in the following procedures, the Local Civil Defense Director sends the notice to State Civil Defense Office which in turn notifies the OCD Regional Office. The Local Civil Defense Director, upon receipt of the property owner's cancellation notice should contact the owner to ascertain the reason for cancellation, and make any necessary arrangement for removing the shelter signs and the shelter supplies, if the building has been marked and stocked. If the cancellation is confirmed, the local director should deduct the shelter space from his inventory and transmit this information in duplicate to the State Civil Defense Director. The State Director should retain one copy for his records and forward one copy to the OCD Regional Office, Attention: Director, Field Operations Office. If the cancelled shelter has not been stocked, the Local Civil Defense Director will note the cancellation on the pre - printed requisition form or the Shipping Document, (if one has been received) and return the form to the Defense General Supply Center at Richmond, Virginia. If the cancelled shelter has been stocked, the Local Civil Defense Director should relocate the shelter supplies to another shelter which meets OCD minimum requirements or to a place of temporary storage. Detailed pro- cedures regarding the moving of the shelter supplies will be issued by a separate bulletin. It is suggested that the Local Civil Defense Director send the owner of the cancelled shelter a letter of appreciation for participating in the fallout shelter program. 1 ?Ii),/ BILL PARKER Regional Director
