The short, scrappy Tigers, boasting only one senior, and losing all eight district battles, still placed two men on the All- District 23-AA Team. Gaining such honors were: Potts, 6 -1 forward, and Alton Arnold, 5 -9 sopho- more who played just about every position. Potts was team captain and leading scorer for the team, while Kavanaugh was chosen "Most Valuable Player." The annual Kiwanis Tournament found the Tigers taking second place, as they were dumped by Navasota 59 -25 in the championship finals, having previously bounced Burton 42 -32, and walloped Waller 56 -36. Potts and Kavanaugh made the all- tourney squad. The CHS "B" team won seven and lost eight during the course of the season. They showed a fine 6 -1 mark for non - district games, but they managed only one victory in conference warfare. TOP TRACK MEN John Wayne Todd, Don Tax, Donald Patton. k TRACK TEAM MAKES ENVIABLE RECORD Coach Arthur Bright's track and field forces, mostly an inexperienced group, placed second in the team stand - ings in district and had one of their members participate in the State Track Meet. Donald Tax was Consolidated's entry in the State gathering, qualifying in the broad jump. Don was individual high scorer in district, where he placed well in the high hurdles, low hurdles, and broad jump, and ran on a relay team. Two other Tigers-- Donald Patton, who finished second in the shot put and in the discus in district, and John Wayne Todd, who placed first in the district meet 880-yard r un competed in regional. WINS AA REGIONAL TITLE �' Continuing the winning pattern set by other C.H.S. spring < sports teams, Coach Edsel Jones' baseballers advanced as = far as possible in Class AA baseball, the regional finals. t i Bfter dropping their first three games of the torr season to schools in a higher class, the Tigers went on a id winning streak to annex the Distr to capture ict 23-AA title. Paced by tremendous pitch - ing for the most part of the th season, the Tigers swept by Liberty bi- district and then downed Elgin in the regional - finals. GOLFER GOES TO STATE The C.H.S. golfers of Coach Larry Hayes easily won the district cham- pionship and then finished second in regional play during the past school year. On the Consolidated top foursome were Jerry Holland, Kirby Jackson, ""' Larry Leighton, and Johnny Barger. Jerry won medalist honors in district as , a s well as in regional and then placed seventh in the individual standings in the State Golf Meet. Consolidated's '57 swimming team was again led by its captain, John Harrington. John scored twelve points to finish eighth in the State Meet.
