Woodcock, FAIA Professor of Architecture 3137 TAMU College of Architecture Texas A &M University College Station, TX 77843 -3137 Dear Dr. Woodcock: The City of College Station commends you and your Introduction to Historic Preservation (ARCH 446) class for the excellent research and reporting skills demonstrated during the recent historic preservation class project. Thank you for collaborating with City staff, Katie Elrod and Lauren Harrell, in designing a class project that not only broadened your students understanding of historic preservation, but also furthered the City's initiative to document pertinent information regarding College Station's oldest structures. The students' reports on seven (7) of College Station's historic homes and buildings will serve to teach us of our community's formative years. These reports will be digitally scanned into the City's Project: HOLD (Historic Online Library Database) and will be available to the public on the City's web site early next year. The City of College Station cherishes its relationship with Texas A &M University faculty and students. When students complete professional projects that contribute to our community's goals and objectives, it serves to give us assurance that the students of today will contribute brilliantly to our future. Thank you for your commitment to the students of Texas A &M University and to the community of College Station. Yours sincerely, j .„2.4 , Ron via Mayor cc: J. Woodcock, FAIA Professor of Architecture 3137 TAMU College of Architecture Texas A &M University College Station, TX 77843 -3137 Dear David: What a great experience it was to collaborate with you in designing a real life class project for your Introduction to Historic Preservation (ARCH 446) class. The research that the students presented regarding the historic homes and buildings designated with historic markers will be permanently archived in College Station's Project HOLD: Historic Online Library Database. In a couple of months, the whole world will be able to access Project: HOLD via the City's web site. The Historic Preservation Committee sends thanks to you and your students for their excellent work. The Committee is striving to turn the historic marker program into an institution that fosters respect and protection of our community's historic structures. The students' professional and thorough approach to their reports and their attention to the cultural context surrounding the structures they studied has sent a clear signal to the community that our memories of days gone by are significant and that our built environment serves as a reminder to collectively reflect on our past, our progress, and our contribution to the future. Lauren Harrell and I thank you for the experience of addressing your class. Our hope is that upon graduation they find a way to contribute to Historic Preservation efforts in their chosen field and in whatever community they settle. Looking forward to working with you in the future. Yours truly, vrilkto Katie Elrod Neighborhood Services Staff Planner cc: J.
