She also recognized the special guests from the Millican Heritage Society. She reported that President Randy Haynes would be somewhat delayed in arriving due to a meeting conflict. Fran Lamb introduced Charles Schultz, chair of the Brazos County Historical Commission, who introduced Bill Page, a local historian, the evening's keynote speaker. Page spoke on the history of the Millican community in south Brazos County and delighted everyone with his stories of times gone by. Millican Heritage Society representative Brenda Owens reported that Dr. David Woodcock, TAMU architecture professor, had inspected the historic Millican community center structure and made recommendations about its restoration needs. She also announced that a Country Gingham High Tea would be held the first Saturday in May to raise funds for the restoration. The business meeting was called to order and the minutes from last year's annual meeting were distributed. Fran Lamb led the group in a discussion of the proposed 2005 budget. Both the 2004 minutes and the 2005 budget were adopted. The 2004 expenditures were also discussed and a report was given on the $3,000 grant received from the Texas Historical Commission for the production of the "Heritage Highlights" radio show. The nominating committee report was read and the slate of proposed officers included. Haynes, presiden Linda LaSut, vice president Cathy Christensen, secretary; and Rhonda Tate, treasurer. A motion was made that the officers slate be accepted. The motion carried. Randy Haynes announced that David Gerling was the recipient of the 2005 Pat Hiler Historical Preservations Award. Arrangements will be made at a later date to present the award, due to the absence of Mr. Gerling. The meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m. V / Nancy Schwart From: Katie Elrod [Kelrod r- stx.gov] Sent: Monday, April 24, 2006 10:15 AM Subject: FYI Brazos Heritage Society meeting This invitation from the Brazos Heritage Society is passed on to you by the College Station Office of Neighborhood Services.
