A Memorial service to celebrate her life .:<.<: is set for 4 p.m. Sunday, March 2'9, at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 305 .~.,;v, Wellborn Rd., in College Station. T. Judy was born in Nolensville, Tenn. to Jennie Lee and Robert N. Herbert. ~ ; She began her life of leadership and community service as Vice President of the Student Body, Central High School in Nashville, Tenn., from 1941 to 1942. She was. a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Service Sorority and was awarded the D.A.R medal and Civitan medal. While working at Vanderbilt, she met and married Clint Philli s on P November 12, 1953, in Nashville. Judy attended the University r of Tennessee in Knoxville before moving to New Qrleans, where they started their family. The family moved to College Station in 1967, and they joined the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Brazos. Valley where Judy served as President, Secretary, Treasurer, Chair of Social Activities, and ~ Chair of the Caring Committee. Judy was active for many years with the League of Women Voters, starting in 1955 as Treasurer of the League of Women Voters of Knox County, Tenn. She served the League as E Secretary in the Louisiana State League, and was president of the League of Women Voters of Brazos Valley from 1972 to 1974. She. also worked with the TAMU Women's Club in the 1970's as Treasurer. She was active with Hospice Brazos Valley and helped to establish the Hospice BV Auxilia , .where she ,served as Treasurer. She was on the Brazos Valley Arts Council as Treasurer/Secretary, and VP of the Arts Council board. Judy and her husband Clint, have been long time members of OPAS, the Brazos Valley Symphony Society, the Brazos Valley Arts Council, Friends of the B/CS Library, Friends of 5= Evans Library and loyal members of the Aggie baseball Dugout Club. Judy and her family were charter supporters of the African American Heritage Museum in Bryan, and supporters of the Festival Institute at Roundtop music program. She ,was a member of the Texas Democratic Women Qrganization and authored a pamphlet "The History of the League of Women Voters of Brazos Valle Shared with Clint sh Y e received the "Andy" Award, .named for former mayor DA "And "Anderson. y Also with Clint, she was given an award from the Brazos Valley * Arts Council for community service in the Arts. At a Prenatal Clinic luncheon, Judy was honored as one of several "Women of the Year." Survivors include her loving husband of 55 years, Clint; two children, Lauralee and Edward; her sister, Wilma Herbert; and two grandchildren, Travis and Sydney. She also had many relatives in Tennessee and many dear friends across the country. Judy and Clint have always been supporters of local charities.
