When a worker is standing in front of a panelboard or air conditioner disconnect switch, he or she should be able to approach it and stand in a clear space with no obstructions without having to lean or climb over another piece of equipmeen or other obstruction. The working space in front of any electrical equipment must be clear from the floor or ground to at least 6.5 feet above the floor or ground. On your job site, things such as the location of a lawn sprinkler valve box, a telephone connection box, a junction box, a subpanel or a current transformer enclosure should be carefully considered when locating the panelboard and service equipment. If these items extend more than 6 inches beyond the front of the adjacent equipment, they are not permitted in the 36 inch depth or 30 inch width space in front of the panelboard or service equipment.
