Once a permit has been issued, the permit holder has 180 days to begin the construction work; otherwise the permit will become invalid. If at any time the work stops for a period of 180 days or more, the permit is considered invalid. The building official is authorized to grant, one or more extensions of time, for periods not more than 180 days each. The extension shall be requested in writing and justifiable cause demonstrrated If the formal request for extension is not received prior to the expiration date the permit will be closed, and the builder will be responsible for all permitting fees prior to the building department issuing a new permit and finishing the project. The proposed changes incllud lowering the threshold of when the studies are required and expanding the applicabillit to rezonings, in addition to site plans which are currently required.
