HomeMy WebLinkAbout1977-1066 - Ordinance - 01/13/1977ORDINANCE NO. 1066 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 690 BY REQUIRING FIRE HYDRANT SPACING TO BE MEASURED BY LAYING LENGTH ALONG STREETS OR FIRE LANES. WHEREAS, the fire hydrant spacing required by Ordinance No. 690 is measured by a method which bears no relationship to practical laying lengths of hose for fire fighting, and WHEREAS, the standards for development within the City must be consistent with fire protection capabilities which the City may reasonably provide, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS: That Ordinance No. 690 of the City of College Station be amended by deleting paragraph 8-N.2 and substituting the following new paragraph: "8-N.2. Fire hydrants of City of College Station standard design shall be installed as a part of the water distribution system at locations approved by the City Engineer. Fire hydrants in single family and duplex districts shall be spaced in such a manner that no part of a building site on any lot shall be more than 500 feet from a fire hydrant as measured along the right-of-way of a public street. Fire hydrants in all other districts shall be spaced in such a manner that no part of any structure shall be more than 300 feet from a fire hydrant as measured along the right-of-way of a public street or along an approved fire lane, and the installation of hydrants in such districts may be deferred and required as a condition of the building permit for structures in the subdivision."
