Airport Zoning Board of Adjustment
Tuesday, July 17, 1984
6:00 P.M.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman Cook, Members Fry, McGuirk, Upham, Wagner
MEMBERS ABSENT: Members Meyer, Wendt
STAFF PRESENT: Director of Planning Mayo, Zoning Official Kee,
Temporary Planning Technician Yakimovicz
Chairman Cook opened the meeting.
AGENDA ITEM NO. 1: Approval of Minutes - meetings of June 25, 1984 and June 29, 1984.
Mr. Fry moved to approve the minutes as presented. Mr. McGuirk seconded. The motion
passed unanimously (5-0).
AGENDA ITEM NO. 2: Presentation by Donald Robinson.
Mr. Donald Robinson, Assistant Manager of Easterwood Airport, gave a presentation
explaining the Easterwood Airport height and navigational hindrance ordinance. He stated
• that representatives of the five localities who are affected by the airport - the City of
Bryan,.the City of College Station, Brazos County, Burleson County, and Texsa ABM University
- had chosen the standing City of College Station Zoning Board of Adjustment to act as the
Airport Zoning Board of Adjustment, with authority coming from the Airport Zoning Act of
1969. He detailed the Board's role in granting variances from structures determined to be
obstructions or hazards to navigation. He suggested that the Board consider the following
when granting variances:
(1) a time limit on the variance;
(2) a specific location for the structure, including degrees, minutes and seconds of
longitude and latitude;
(3) a requirement to notify the airport 24 hours prior to beginning construction to
allow the airport to issue a Notice to Airmen.
Board members requested to have copies of the legislative enactments and the agreement
between local governing bodies which empower the Board to act. Mr. Robinson agreed to
furnish these.
AGENDA ITEM NO. 3: Adjournment.
Mr. Wagner moved to adjourn, with Mr. Fry seconding. The motion passed unanimously (5-0).
