God's word has been steadfast through it all as is written in Matthew ~ 16: 18 "Upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell shall ~ not prevail against it." The fact that Roans Chapel has existed for 121 ~ years is a testimony in and of itself to our relationship with God ~ Almighty and God's relationship with Roans Chapel. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ One hundred Twenty one years ago Reverend Ben Roan had a vision, a will and desire to establish a Baptist church. Together with Rev. Perry Parnell, Rev. Abe Johnson, Rev. Major Robinson and other dedicated individuals the church was established in May of 1881. The Church was named Roans Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Parnell was elected Pastor. Church was initially held in the home of Rev. Roan; but the congregation outgrew his home and with the help of David Roan, Ales Hamilton, Dennis Andrews, Lee Richards and others they built a Church near this present site on one acre of land. The Church has been under the leadership of Rev. Parnell, Rev. Johnson, Rev. Wells, Rev. Kelly, Rev. Williams, Rev.Slaughter, Rev. Granger, Rev. Gordon, Rev. Foster, Rev. Brent, Rev. Gilmore, Rev. Landry, Rev. Hinton, Rev. West, Rev. Lewis, Rev. Flewellen, Rev. Oran Williams and our present leader Rev. Samuel Hill. Roan's Chapel has continued to move forward through God's grace and mercy, a lot of hard work, perseverance, and continued prayers under all of our Pastors. Pastor Hill came to us in July of 1994 as a new Pastor in the Ministry and God again smiled on Roans Chapel. Under his quiet leadership we are still striving to be that church that is following Christ and we know that "Faith is spoken here." 2002 Church Officers God deserves the best from all of us; all we have was given to us by Him and should be used in service to Him. j ...
